Greetings from a crime scene! I’m eating at a restaurant that had a murder at it earlier this year. Eek. All’s quiet here today, but I’m going to change that as I blast today’s song on my list of favorites with “mother” in the title...in honor of Mother’s Day. #8: Mother Says - Barnstorm Joe Walsh loved trios. He went from the James Gang, which was just guitar, bass, and drums, to forming the band Barnstorm, which was just guitar, bass, and drums. I didn’t know this until I saw it on Picky Wedia, but the band’s sole album under the group name was the first album recorded at Caribou Ranch (where a number of other classic albums, including Elton John’s Caribou, were recorded). The highlight of the album is “Birdcall Morning,” but there are plenty of other good, rocking songs on the album. This one goes through tempo changes with the instrumental mid-section, something that Walsh frequently does (see: “Life’s Been Good”). And, of course, Walsh shows off his guitar playing throughout. His mom would be proud. Mother Says Written by Kenny Passarelli, Joe Walsh, and Joe Vitale Recorded by Barnstorm From Barnstorm, 1972 We all know how the rules are:
Track 5 from the pictured album. I think people have been waiting for this one

There is a rather lush sound like with an orchestra.

Joe got into the synthesizers on this album. There must’ve been a mess of them sitting around, because there’s quite a few synthesizer parts on Caribou as well (like “Ticking” and “I’ve Seen the Saucers”).
