Diane Grumley who is the mother of her 31 year old son Lance who suffers from autism must have felt very ill to her stomach when her son who needs to have the company of a caretaker, found out that when her son left the apartment where they live in Rohnert Park California six days ago.
Normally Lance would open the garage door but he would not walk away without a caretaker.
When Diane found out that her son left the apartment without her supervision, she asked neighbors if they saw her son.
One neighbor told Diane that her son was walking on a bike path. Diane could not find him though.
After the Rohnert Park Police were called to locate her missing son. Officer Justin Thompson was able to find Lance on a raised path that led to a creek where he found Lance who was "scared and upset" even though Officer Thompson knew Lance personally.
What happened next is that Officer Thompson showed his heart of compassion by removing his helmet since he is a motorcycle policeman and gave Justin a hug to tell him that everything would be all right.
The image of the officer and Lance sharing a hug made it to social media. Thanks to Officer Thompson, Lance was able to reunite with his mom.

Officer Thompson is a veteran of the police force who knew how to console Lance when he was sad that he left his mom's residence without anyone to watch over him.

That is so true since I am sure Lance's mom was worried sick that her son walked out of her apartment without anyone to be with him.

Wow! So glad he was found! My son has autism and I worry that he might wander off some day. We are going to try to get him a GPS bracelet through the police soon.
