Do you rinse after brushing your teeth?

I know this sounds like a stupid question or like I haven't put much thought into a discussion but I am genuinely interested to know. For many many years my dad and I would comment on something we noticed often in movies. And that was when the actors had to brush their teeth in a scene, would spit but not rinse. My dad and I didn't understand why this would happen a lot. It was mainly in American movies. Not too long ago I had a dentist appointment and he told me that I should start leaving the toothpaste in my mouth as it's good for teeth / gums. He explained it in further detail but I learned something new and I understood then why it's done a lot in movies. Unfortunately, I will floss and brush my teeth but I have to rinse. The thought of not rinsing makes me gag. Do you rinse or do you keep the toothpaste in your mouth? Oh that made me gag again lol

I rinse, I don't really like the taste of toothpaste lingering in my mouth. There'll be some toothpaste left I guess, but the taste of it everywhere is too much

@VivaLaDani13 Me too. I also have tootbrush and toothpaste at work, in case I fear bad breath. I work as a teacher, so not having bad breath is quite important IMO

@Torunn Nor do I. I especially hate it when I am thirsty right after brushing. Brushing teeth then drinking orange juice isn't a good mix I know that for sure now lol

@Torunn I am the same. I will brush teeth after I have finished eating / ready for bed. And brush teeth in the morning after breakfast.

I do not rinse for the same reason your dentist said. I use Sensodyne for my sensitive teeth and gums. I was told not to rinse, to let it stay on my teeth so that's what I do. I spit out as much excess as possible but don't actually take water in and rinse.

@VivaLaDani13 Doesn't bother me at all. I spit out as much as possible, just don't rinse.

@patgalca Thank you for answering as most MyLotters have said they rinse. Is it something that feels a bit icky to you or you don't mind doing that now?

Rinse! I always rinse and I use a mouthwash after rinsing. What your dentist told you is weird.

@VivaLaDani13 I know that they say this because fluoride is used in toothpaste and this protects the teeth, BUT... too much fluoride can lead to dental fluorosis, which can damage bones and joints. Consider that fluoride is added to our drinking water, so I feel safer rinsing my mouth.

@LadyDuck I just use water. Rarely use mouth wash as it's a bit uncomfortable for me. I did read that some dentists now are trying to push this but it's just something I can't do.

I don't usually rinse. But by the time I am done brushing there really isn't any tooth paste left.

@VivaLaDani13 by the time Iam done, I have spat and rinsed my tooth brush so many times, I don't have any taste left in my mouth.

@paigea Interesting! You are the first person so far to say they don't really rinse. Have you always done it like that? Is it comfortable for you or just something you tolerate?

Yes, I always rinse. I remember when we were children and when we went to school class somewhere outside the city, many children ate toothpasteI never did it. And every child had some fruit toothpaste, with the taste of strawberries, cherries.

@VivaLaDani13 It was not because of the lack of fruit, we did not miss anything, but I guess they liked this taste

We use a dental rinse with fluoride after we brush. Gives the teeth a double whammy and any residue in your mouth is spit out too.

Brushing and rinsing is what I followed throughout my life. But yes, I have noticed this thing in many English movies, I thought they didn't do it because it was unnecessary to show them in movies.

@Sojourn I'm the same as you. I have been doing what I got taught to do. I could change that but it's a difficult change for me.
