How to build rapport in the workplace?

I always find it hard to interact and make friends with people. Every time I am with the other groups, I am quiet, no words at all unless they talk to me. I always thought that If I talk to one of the people in the group they might ignore me. Sometimes I talk but it seems that they're not interested to listen to me. How about you?
How do you build rapport especially if you are new in the workplace?

It is good to be quiet for awhile and try to assess how we will blend in. That's what I do.

@Bianca_mergillano I understand how you feel as I am usually the quiet one. In school, when I studied, at work or when around people I don't know well.
I honestly don't have the best advice in the world but what I can say is that practising some things to say alone can help for you to then say it to people face to face.
I don't want to speak for these people but I can only assume that they know you are quiet. And maybe they are worried themselves on trying to interact with someone ( you ) who isn't being interactive in the first place.
Maybe try practice or think hard about some topics even if it's something simple like "Hey I really love those shoes! Where did you get them?" I know it's simple but simple comments and questions can turn into a huge conversation.
I feel for you because I struggle a lot with talking at times. It's all about confidence too. I wish you well with getting to talk more so they can talk to you too. But someone has to make the move and I guess they won't because they know you are shy or maybe they think you don't want to talk.
Since you are new, you could simply ask people around you how long they have been there for, do they live in the area, what were they doing before this job or is this the job they want to do long term. Stuff like that.
Good luck!

It's okay to be quiet. Make sure to observe your workmates and listen to what they say. In that way, you can find something in common, and you can start from there.
