How do you relax after a day at work?

May 27, 2019 3:25pm CST
I work in the care sector with people who have learning disabilities. Some days can be challenging, others fine. I am working whilst at university and I'm finding it hard to relax after I get home. I always end up sleeping, I feel motivated to do things and don't do them. I have also been recently diagnosed with PTSD which is also something I would like to control without medication. I'm all for self help. Any advice?

Exercising at the gym always helps me unwind and de-stress after a long day at work. Also, if I have the chance, I love to get outside in nature and go for a walk. Being around nature always soothes me and helps me relax.

@JadeCowanx3 Walking is very healthy for you too, and can be ttherapeutic and relaxing! I can imagine you have very beautiful scenery along your walks!

I used to go to the gym every single day, then I suddenly lost motivation. My exercise is now walking miles with my dog. As I live in Scotland, there are beautiful sights around me

a few people have said it, comfy clothes and a movie! I also like to draw or read to relax. sometimes I'll clean, even if it's small like one drawer or one strip of kitchen counter. seeing things organized makes my thoughts a little more organized.

There's nothing better than the feeling of things being clean and organised

Sorry, I'm not sure I could offer any useful advice. I quite often don't really relax when I get home from work! There is usually a lot I need to do. Once I've finished my full-time job, travelled the hour long journey home, I've usually got writing work and housework to do. I will always have a cup of tea, though. There is always time for tea. Even then, I decide to make a tea and then forget I was going to do it. It's not so bad when my boys are home. One of them will make a cup of tea. I try to put some time aside to just watch TV with the boys or to play a game with them. There are so many things I think I'd love to do to relax but I'm often too tired. I'll fall asleep before anything is finished!

I used to change clothes and have a cold drink, pepsi or sweet tea, and talk to the hubby.

That sounds like interesting work. I have done similar work in the past. I just relax with TV after work mostly. I always hope to do house work but end up just sitting on the couch.

I sleep. First of all, I bathe cold water and read book to make me fall asleep. I only read romantic story, even the cheesiest one and avoid stories like horror or thriller... ..but if this things don't work, I pray and meditate. And making sure no one disturb me, I lock my room away to noises and people. Also I don't put earplugs or watch TV, because it's much harder to relax.
