Two Hotels at the Same Time

My husband and I are still living in a hotel, and expect to be here for at least another month, perhaps longer. However, long before we had the plumbing disaster which forced us to move into the hotel, we had made plans to go to a business conference in Los Angeles. When we attend these conferences, about twice a year, we always stay at the Angeleno Hotel near the Getti Museum. Since we will only be in the Angeleno Hotel for a few days, we are not going to pack up everything we have at the hotel where we are currently staying. We are going to keep this hotel room, while we go stay at the other one! By the way, we are not paying for either room, or we would not be doing this. The insurance is paying for the hotel where we are currently staying. The people who want my husband to go to the business conference are paying for the other one. Right now, we have more hotel rooms than we know what to do with! I think a little change will do us good.

@andriaperry - Ha ha! Yes, we are trying to make the most of this period of time ... although I don't think I would permanently want to live with my husband in one room! LOL

We did the same once when we were traveling in the United States, we had to go only a few days in another city, we kept the hotel room to avoid to pack everything.

@DeborahDiane When you have only a few things to pack it's not a problem, but when we came to the United States for 3 or 4 weeks we had plenty of things to pack.

@LadyDuck - I'm glad to hear you have done the same thing, too. It makes things much easier for us!

@LadyDuck - I know what you mean. Since we could be staying in the other hotel for a couple of months, we have a lot of things there, including some food items and clothing for different types of weather. Since we will only be in the Los Angeles hotel for a couple of days, we did not need to bring much, and we certainly did not want to pack up everything to just be here for a short time.

So glad you don't have to pay for either of them, I know how expensive that gets!

@LovingMyBabies - Yes, hotel bills can run up fast. We would have to re-think everything if we had to pay for this.

@Hannihar - Yes, the insurance is paying. What I said in my last answer was that we would not be able to afford to do this if we had to pay for it. Fortunately, we have good insurance. Still, we would like to go home, and it could be several more weeks before that happens.

@Hannihar - Thank you, Hanni. We will not be able to afford to do this for so long if we had to pay for it. However, we would like to get back into our condo, so it is frustrating that it has been taking so long. However, my husband and I are trying to enjoy ourselves and use the time to relax. Since we have no choice, we might as well enjoy the situation!

@DeborahDiane I thought the insurance is paying. Are they not? It is not fair that you pay. I hope you get back home soon too.

@Scrapper88 - I hope things get fixed soon, too. Then, they will have to replace the kitchen cabinets and hardwood floors, as well as do some painting. Lots to do still.

That’s nice that you can keep the two hotel rooms for free. You can both agree where to stay for the night and enjoy the amenities of both the hotels.

@crazyhorseladycx - Hopefully, everything will go well. Our life is so disrupted right now, with our home sitting empty and workers coming and going, that I worry more that something will be stolen from the house. Everything seems chaotic. Hopefully, I will not need a go-fund-me, but as crazy as things have gotten, it is hard to know what to expect! LOL

Thanks, @crazyhorseladycx - We will be taking our computers and valuables with us to the other hotel. I doubt some maid will come in and steal my jeans and the leftover food in the little refrigerator! LOL Yes, if this goes on too long, I may need bail. I'll call on you if I murder anyone!

@garymarsh6 - We were also hoping the repairs would go a little faster. Sadly, they still have a lot of work to do, which has been frustrating. We are getting to know all the workers in our hotel very well. I understand your lovely country is going to be taking Trump off our hands for a few days next week. Enjoy!

@DeborahDiane Hahaha yes he is due to arrive tomorrow. I do hope that people behave themselves and do not cause too much disruption afterall he is here to honour the brave men from the USA. A combined state visit I think he will not be making many public appearances here and will be kept away from the protests! Lordy I do not agree with the protests!

@DeborahDiane OOps sorry to hear that there is still a lot of work to be done. I hope you and your husband are bearing up. Hmm and getting on first name terms with the hotel employees. In a way that is nice they will miss you when you do finally go back home!

I was getting worried about the potential costs you could have been paying, until you mentioned that the insurance company was paying the tab. That makes it a little more tolerable. But I'm sure it's still not the same as living in your own house.

@DeborahDiane I totally understand that! Even if you were staying at a 5-star hotel, nothing can replace the feeling of being at home in your own house. Even if they spoil you every morning with breakfast!

@moffittjc - I agree! It looks like we are going to be here at least another two weeks, and that is if they get started right away. It is more likely we will be here another three or four weeks, or longer. I really do like our home, and I look forward to going back soon. I ran into some of our neighbors the other day, and the wife hugged me and said how much she missed me. Hopefully, I will write a new post one of these days telling everyone I am back home. It can't happen soon enough!

@moffittjc - Oh, yes! If we were paying for this ourselves, it would be a disaster. We would be staying at Motel 6. However, even though the insurance company is paying, it is inconvenient. We have to go home to use the laundry once a week. The hotel doesn't have Pay-per-View or Netflix, or anything like that. It doesn't even have HBO. It is nice, quiet and they prepare a lovely breakfast every morning, which totally spoils us. However, it is hard to go from a three bedroom / two bath house and live in one room, even if it a nice room.

@evans777 - Ha ha! Since it is near Hollywood, it is supposed to look like a stack of old phonograph records. It is designed by the same man who designed the original Capital Records building. He would be shocked to know that 50 years later people would think it looks like a waste can or battery! LOL

i agree. just take things you need for the business conference. it would be such a hassle to pack, set up then pack again when it's only for a few days. yes, a change of scenery is most welcome. will you be driving? how far is it?

@hereandthere - Yes, we will be driving. The two hotels are about 60 miles apart. Because of the traffic between here and Los Angeles, it will take about 75 minutes to get there. It will be good to see some new people and new scenery, too.

@wolfgirl569 - Yes, that is the good part. I don't have much to do. In fact, I help the hotel maid make the bed this morning. It just seemed strange to sit here and watch her do it. If we stay too long, I may find myself helping to make the scrambled eggs for the buffet in the morning!
