Hamster in the Jam

That is what yesterday morning involved. One of the families I babysit for, the 9 year old has a hamster. The kids all had biscuits and strawberry jam for breakfast yesterday as I arrived at 9am to watch them for a few hours. I didn’t even think to put the jam jar away and thought nothing of Hamby the Hamster being I’m Andrew’s shirt pocket where he tends to hang out most days. We came in from playing outside and everyone was getting their library books to read for half an hour when I suddenly heard, “Look at Hamby!” There was one very happy little hamster - tail end up - in the jam jar, eating away like crazy. All I could do was laugh! All four kids thought it was hilarious. Hamby was pretty pleased with the whole situation too. I, however; has to pull one very sticky hamster out of the jar. I sent the kids off to read while the sticky little hamster got a good scrubbing. The parents have no idea why that jar of jam mysteriously disappeared...and hopefully they won’t notice the hamster smells like strawberries.
