It's Amazing What Giving Up Sugar Will Do....

I am so surprised sometimes at how well my body reacts to giving up sugar/carbs. I try to keep my "net carbs" at 20 or less for the whole day. Net carbs for those that don't know is total carbs minus fiber (and some sugar alcohols). Usually I will see that my blood sugar is in a better range....but this time I am surprised that even my fasting numbers are good (been in the 80's). I am not really doing anything differently. I haven't been having as many low carb tortillas, and I changed up the brand I do use.... Otherwise, I am still eating the same low carb things as usual. I'm glad for the lower numbers though. Even after eating, they have been under 100! Do you try to cut down on sugar/carbs for your health? Do you cut out other macros for your health?

My blood sugar was keeping up into the danger zone, so my doctor wanted to put me on medication. I told him to let me try diet changes first, and although I didn't really give up on eating sugar, I just started eating healthier....lots of fruits and nuts instead of junk food, and my blood sugar levels returned to normal very quickly. And I feel so much better and healthier too!

@MommyOfEli2013 Sometimes genetics plays a role in what happens to our bodies and how our metabolism regulates itself.

That's good that you tried changing your diet first, and that's great to hear that changing to healthier options helped! I am currently on 4 different meds, but low carb helps. Eating carbs (whether it's fruit, or healthier carbs) my sugar stays high;even with meds!

@moffittjc Yeah, that is a very good point....that could definitely be the case. And if you take care of things early on that helps too

I'm sorry to hear about the stress, that can make it harder to eat right. Hopefully things will get better for you!

Good On Ya!!! I've never given up carbs in general, but I was always told that if I would just quit drinking soda pop, I would sleep better, I would feel better and I'd lose weight. I went 5 years without drinking any pop whatsoever. There was no noticeable difference in anything. I'm sure my organs probably appreciated it, but they never let me know. lol

Thank you! I never heard that about sleeping better with giving up soda (unless that is because of the caffeine). That is interesting though that you gave it up for 5 years and you didn't see any noticeable difference! Maybe it doesn't work for everyone, who knows!

I don't do anything special but I really do not enjoy too many sweet things and so not add sugar to anything.

Well that is good if you don't enjoy many sweet things....that helps out I am sure!

I limit my carbs. Pasta only like 2 times a month. Rice or a sweet potato with some of my dinners. I never buy bread. Lots of protein and green vegetables (or non-starchy ones) for me.

Limiting them is good.....and that's good to allow yourself to have pasta a couple times. And Rice and Sweet potatoes are healthy carbs, at least! That sounds like a very healthy diet; with protein and green veggies!

I did cut down my carbs a couple of years ago when my wife went on a low carb diet. I actually do not think it is a healthy diet.

@MommyOfEli2013 Sorry, but these days I want my potatoes, my rice, and my noodles. I am weak.

@porwest Ohhh....It's a thing of want is it? Just kidding! But I understand....I want my potatoes and pasta too....and allow them occasionally.

To each their own, but it's what is helping my numbers not be in the danger zone. I will agree that it is not for everyone, though.

My sugars run low, so I’m not on a low carb diet, or anything, but I do try to make healthy choices!

Oh yeah, if your sugar runs low, low carb wouldn't be best! But that's good to still eat healthy
