I always have questions about these type of posts, and I very rarely share them

A person on my facebook just shared a supposed incident that happened in my city. The incident involved a young lady and a well spoken, cleanly dressed black man. Those two identifiers always makes me raise my eyebrows. Is this going to be true or an elaborate tale to scare people? The story didn't say what time of night it was, just that it was "last night." One presumes that it was after dark, but it could have been anytime of the evening. Anyway, the man asked her to look at his brochure, he was a realtor. So she starts pumping her gas and looking at it. Well, her hands start going numb and she starts feeling dizzy, so she drops the brochure and asks the man what is going on. He moves in closer and tells her to be quiet, so she screams. Luckily there's someone pulling in and the man runs off. I have questions Why is it always a black man in these stories? Regardless of wether you believe them to be true or not, why is it always a black man. I know it's dark, but surely she would have seen if he was wearing gloves. Would that not have given her warning bells? The post was written in June of last year, so gloves would be a silly thing to wear at night. Even if they were driving gloves, most people take them off and leave them in the car. What I am getting at is while this could be true, there's just enough details to scare you, but not enough to make me believe it's real. I mean, it very well could be real. However, why did the post not mention the police being called? It says "she remembers enough details about him for a sketch to be made." However, it was dark. I know that gas stations have lights on at night, but she wasn't going into the situation thinking she needed to look at him and memorize. Yeah, it could be true, but there's enough of these going around every year for me to say it's a scare tactic. What say you?

Stories which go into minute details while being unspecific about the real and important details are almost certainly fake stories designed to incite fear and, in this case, it seems, racial hatred. If you see such a thing, report it to Facebook at once and DON'T share it! Poisons which act so quickly through the skin, as described in the story, are NOT common or easily available.. They are the sort of thing which you only hear about in high profile international crime stories such as the Salisbury (UK) attack on the Skripals in 2018 and the attack on Kim Jon Un's brother in Malaysia in 2017. The whole story is fiction and dangerous 'fake news'.

I don't share them, but I don't always report them either. I will start reporting them as I see them though. I was wondering about the substance that the woman supposedly touched, I didn't think that such a thing would be so easily available, and if it was, then the police would be putting out a statement and not some random citizen. These stories nearly always feature black men, sometimes hispanic men, but rarely white, asian or any other minority.

Don't know why, but no matter what happens in society where both black and whites are, the black will likely be the first suspect

Unfortunately so. I've even heard of cases where an African American security card was tased because a respondign police officer thought he was the suspect. The security guard was only trying to assist the family.

I think that, as usual, is a fabricated story and Facebook is doing nothing to stop this crap.

I don't know that facebook can do much. Someone would need to be reporting these stories instead of sharing them, which is what is really happening. This isn't the first time I've seen a story like this. A lot of times it's about something happening in the walmart parking lot. While I believe that things do occur n parking lots late at night, it's almost always a walmart parking lot, which makes the story seem so fabricated.

It is sad that these fake stories are going around, isn't it? Scaring people and causing undue hate and fear.

Sometimes stories posted on facebook are not real. Maybe they just want to simple scare people.

Probably so, or more likely they want to be "famous" for a few minutes.

I've found stories like that are loosely based on an isolated incident and blown out of proportion so people will share it. As for it being a black man, racism is alive and well.

I have to agree with you, it might have occurred once, ten years ago and people are still talking about it and sharing it, fabricating details along the way like it's a regular occurrence. It's sad, as is the fact that there is still racism in this world.

You are smart not to believe the story and it is good you bring it to our attention. I almost never share stories, just memes and recipes.

I wanted to say something to the person who shared it but I decided it wasn't worth it. I know she shared it out of the goodness of her heart, and she may or may not believe me if I claim that it is fake. I mostly share silly things, funny things and some inspirtational things in between. I try not to veer into politics or anything like that.

Well, it's possible and in todays day and age you just never know but, yea it always is a "Black Male" and if it is on facebook they never give any details, where was the gas station, what address? Did he run away on foot or did he jump in a car and what kind of car? Did the police catch him? Why was this story not in the local media? Shouldn't it be covered in the local media to warn others that this is happening? Or are the police just depending on a post on facebook by some random user to get the word out? I would guess it was fake.

Yes, I am pretty sure it was faske. I don't think I heard about this in the news last year (as it was supposed to be last year). The gas station is real though as they gave a real location. Doesn't make the story true.
