Father's day and you!

June 16, 2019 9:38am CST
Greetings, this is for all sons and daughters of myLot. Just like the range of people in this world, all dad's are not the same. Some are loving and nurturing, some guide through tough love, some try to live their life through you, and then there are those that get a kick out of causing you distress. The scary part is, these don't even cover the whole of the spectrum. I would say I had more of a self-serving kind of dad who cares more about appearances for total strangers than creating an affectionate and safe environment for his children. Even now after I become a young adult, I'm stuck tending to my elderly parents and still get pretty much scolded 24/7. Do I resent him? No. I pity him. I wish him a long and comfortable life and hope that in his next life he becomes an affectionate human being. Resentment turns to hate and I don't want to nurture an emotion like hatred. Sometimes out of desperation for a sense of stability, I've looked at my elder brother as a father figure, but he's no good with his random volcanic eruptions and unpredictability mostly resulting from our dad trying to force him to carry on his legacy. That's no good, reminds me of his father... only a more modern version. At least he seems good to his own kids. Sometimes... mental, emotional, and financial abuse is worse than physical abuse. You can easily identify physical abuse and seek protection, but the other kinds are more subtle and grow over time to the point it becomes a way of life to you. Anyway, let's not sully this wonderful day of honoring our dads because of a few bad eggs. I'd like to think there are other's who have an affectional relationship with their dads. In fact, most of my close friends have good relationships with their dads and they've grown up independent, strong, and confident as a result. I'm sure there are quite a few here who are fathers themselves. Happy Father's Day. :)

This post is for sons and daughter's too and not specifically for fathers, but it just so happens some of the "sons" may be fathers too. Take me, for example, I'm not a father nor mother. :)

I'm sorry your father wasn't the best kind, but I admire you for taking care of him.

Happy father's day to everyone. I personally don't celebrate this day because my father's also been a bad influence in my and my family's life. I don't resent him for what he did to me, as you said some emotions are not to be nurtured, but I do resent him for making my mother suffer. Nowadays I just hope he learns to be a better person and stays far away from me and my beloved ones.
