I started off the year with a step count of 12,000, I moved it up about a month ago to 13,000. I am making it, in fact I found a really nice track to walk while my daughter is in gymnastics class and put in 3.5 miles 4 mornings a week. I can hit 18,000 most days now. The weekends are a little harder we are less active those days, but I can make my minimum. I have not missed a day so far this year making my goal. I just signed up for my first 5K, I will be walking, but I also signed up all my family and some of them plan on running. It will be a night run with all the cool lights and such, should be fun. I have been making better meals for us, more vegetables and so on. I have lost 5 pounds since the beginning of the month. Wish it were more but will take what I can. I keep toying with the idea of jogging to lose more calories, but worry about knees, ankles, feed problems. It is interesting to watch people on the track as I walk. One lady came wearing her high heels shoes and walked about 5 miles in them. I wonder how much her feet hurt after that or if she is used to coming after work or something. I see people of all ages older, young mothers with strollers, 30ish and 20ish, Mostly older, retired folks though. As a side note, it is about that time for "the talk" with my daughter, I have talked with 4 boys but never a girl. Anybody have any input on that? How did you handle it? Did it go well? I kind of dread it. Photo form Pixabay I hope you all are having a wonderful week!

The boys were pretty easy, but I guess because there are ony 2 girls I am just struggling with it. Maybe I just hate to see my baby girls grow up

@RubyHawk I just wonder where time went. I remember when I was so young pushing the kids around in cart and people would stop and tell me to enjoy it, I did, but wish time has gone slower.

@mom210 I know, it's sad to see then grow up and strike out on their own. They're not our babies anymore.

Good for you and keep up the good work. Those pounds will melt off. I wear high heels when I go out in the evening, but would never wear them for speed walking. I wouldn't want to ruin them! lol I have two sons, so my hubs gave them the talk - multiple times.

what a good hubby, mine had me do both boys and girls. I agree on the heels, they make sneakers for that

@DianneN for years, I have had a hard time walking very far in sandals of any kind. Over the last couple I have found some very comfortable ones. I am so happy!

@mom210 I've been wearing more comfy sandals this summer even on date nights and Saturday nights unless it's a fancy night out.

I actually laid in bed with my daughter watching TV and talked to her about love and the "right one" and not throwing away what she can only give once. It worked I think and she didn't even know we were having it, while we were there I filled her head with my pro-life ideas without her ever realizing it.

I love that! Fantastic job! She has gotten bits and pieces her whole life, keep your legs closed, and babies are a blessing, so she knows right form wrong I guess I just feel the need to drill it in there a bit more .

I have the habit to walk in high heels, my feet never hurt, even if I walk for a long time and pretty fast.. I walk but I do not jog, after 50 it is dangerous, you can damage your knees and joints and cartilages.

@mom210 We went to buy a few things at Ikea last week, I thought it was not a long walk, we walked during more than two hours and I was wearing heels. I was happy to wear my slippers back home.

No children to talk to about but perhaps this can help give you some ideas. I don't even remember what my mom talked to me about but I do remember that my period came early at 12 years and I calmly told my mom it had arrived and she got me prepared. So if I took it that calmly it meant my mom had done the right coming of age talking to me.
Discussing sex and reproduction with a child for the first time can be an uncomfortable subject. However, it's best your child learns about these topics from you first rather than being exposed to inaccurate information on the playground....

I remember when mine cam my mom had not talked to me, I freaked a little. So I did tell them about that early on but did not give tons of details just the general stuff. Good site thank you for that.

My daughter is in that situation about "the talk" She has two girls and they are her oldest. We (she and I ) are both pretty reticent about personal subjects. I know she had some "health" classes in school. She did find it was easier to talk to the two girls together, the oldest just turned thirteen and second one is ten.

I considered that, my younger one is 11, the older one is 15 so I keep wondering if I should do a one shot deal.

never had to since I was open with all my kids from first time they asked anything. We could talk in my house about literally anything. I think because to many secrets and such went on from my mother and made things difficult for me. or maybe it is from having mostly to raise them myself. Non of it is actually dirty . God made it that way so don't make it seem that way or something to be ashamed of. Maybe find a book from Dr. Ruth to explain it all.

Oh wow! That is awesome! Congrats. I need to get more active myself. It would go a long way in helping with my blood pressure. I have no idea about how to handle the talk with a girl. I have all boys. Good luck.

I have gone back to my beet power in AM smoothies. I think it has helped with my energy levels, and I think the extra activity has helped. Plus we are making home made cod ginger drink that I drink before bed. Seemed like that was a big thing for me, I would wake with huge bad BP numbers in the am. My numbers have been great lately

Congratulations on the increased activity and diet improvements. It can be difficult to start, but it sounds like its working for you. I have never had to have 'the talk' with a daughter, we lost ours at such a young age that it never came up. Good luck with it.

How old is your daughter? I have two and it's better to talk about things before they are interested. The problem is many people of any age wonder what certain things will be like that they may consider a relationship for the wrong reasons. The main thing is instilling confidence in her ability to know between right and wrong and praying that she makes wise choices when the time comes. The lady walking in heals could just have easily brought along a pair of tennis shoes from home. I don't get the heals either. I was getting between 10,000-13,000 steps in days I worked one or both jobs. Now that I'm home I'm down to about 3,000-5,000. At least I'm not gaining with the weight but going keto may be helping with that too.

I have heard a lot about that Keto working really well. for them, guess I should look it up and see what it is all about. I end up walking in the evening in front of the tv too, just to get a few more steps for the day in. Seems like all this walking is really help y blood pressure too, the numbers have been super lately. She has been told her whole life keep her legs closed, she is 15 now and not interested in any boys yet, she is way more interested in sports right now. I hope to keep in that way for good while.

@mom210 Atkins is easier than keto and also works well. Once you get away from sugar for the weeks the cravings leave. You can make sweets and use natural sugars instead. Some are delicious some I am still working on. Keto takes more cooking and preparation than Atkins but I plan on staying with the keto as I've purchased several cookbooks recently. Once I'm able to stand more and longer I can then cook more meals ahead of time.

When I realized I couldnt run without my shins burning I knew I had to start running again. walking was not helping. Now I can run with no pain, I been doing it for 9 years. But I still need to diet and lose 20 pounds.

She is a tough little chick, she went through a stage of a young man slapping her behind, she warned him if he did not stop, she would belt him. I don't think he believed her because he did do it again and she did belt him. I was sooo proud!
