I don't understand airports

When hubby and I went on vacation, we ended up at the Atlanta airport. On the way to our destination I did not ask for help. What a mistake.
My thought: same airplane company so the next airplane to be boarded would be near by. NO. The next pick up spot was a train ride then two escalators and a good half mile away. I did not know the airport. I asked for help from two different people and got two different answers. We finally got to the pick up spot. Two flight attendants said: Thank God! We are about to shut the plane's doors. WHEW.
Return trip: we asked for help. Literally. The minute our first plane arrived at the Atlanta airport, the second plane started boarding. What?! An employee ran us down airport aisles, shoved our way into two elevators cause I hate escalators, shoved us into a train, ran walked us a good half mile and yup, boarding had commenced when we got to our plane. He waved our tickets at the lady who was in charge of putting people on the plane and we got to sit and breathe.
Hubby vows to never and he means never fly into the Atlanta airport again. I felt like Alice falling down the rabbit hole.

Twice we've flown with an Atlanta stopover; and once we had to literally run to our connecting flight.

@LindaOhio Exactly and you probably had to be squished in one of those tram trains, too.

@LindaOHio Its so hard to run in an airport. There are so many people standing around oblivious to others, dealing with their phone.

I have never had a good experience at the Atlanta airport, it is a nightmare, so is O'Hare in Chicago. I try to avoid them whenever possible. In our case there was a delay after we had gotten to the first gate and then we had to go to another gate a mile away we had to take the tram and it was complicated and everyone was crabby!!

@BelleStarr "Everyone was crabby." Exactly. Heading out on our trip I was crabby for sure. The stewardess offered me water and I grabbed the bottles like a life line.

Glad you made both planes. I would look for a different route too.

@wolfgirl569 I guess its legal to have the same time of arrival as departure of another plane. Sure left us in a bind.

I have been to that airport a couple of times. I haven't flown in over a decade.

@JohnRoberts I bet the Atlanta airport is larger than when you last were in it.

@CarolDM I hated to ask for help- my hubby happens to be blind but usually we get along just fine without help. We learned the nasty way that sometimes you just have to scream or get left behind. Non stop flights never seem to be available for our destinations.
