Strawberry Season and a Strawberry Moon

Well everyone it's Strawberry Season here in the Northern Hemisphere but I really haven't seen too many real Ontario Strawberries yet. The only ones I saw were the Greenhouse house ones and they are not seasonal field strawberries to me.
I am looking in the stores cause hopefully I will get some un-tampered with strawberries that are sweet an delicious. My mother always told me that the best tasting 'anything' were the small ones of things. And in the case of strawberries and other berries I do think she was right.
A few nights ago I witnessed a glorious full moon for two nights in a row and then to my surprise found the June full moon was sometimes called a Strawberry moon. And now that I think of it -it was a bit pinkish in colour. LOL! Anyway that's probably because it's strawberry season!
But really- All I want is a box of good old fresh, unadulterated natural strawberries and am waiting patiently till they come to a store near me. Happy Strawberry Season folks!

Strawberry Moon, is a name given to the moon in north America, we call it "Rose Moon" here in Europe, in other countries they call it "Hot Moon". The name Strawberry moon was given by native American not because it is strawberry season, but because it is the short time of strawberry harvesting.

@MarymargII It was totally white here, not even a bit pink.

@LadyDuck No really it had a pink tinge to it. Now it is waning again but it was a beautiful moon.

Very interesting Anna and I do like all those names. It honestly was a rich and slightly pink colour as I did see it. Also strawberry harvesting is quite similar to the time of the strawberry season. Either way it's delicious! HA!

Well the climate could be too hot for them. They may need a winter to survive next Spring.

I have not had any locals yet either, the season was quite a lot later this year than normal.

@MarymargII I would eat them alone or with other fruit. Cereal isn't part of my diet.

Well the moon was a little while ago but yes I have gotten to taste these gems a little while ago. If you don't want to go off your diet- they're even delicious in cereal or as a low cal fruit treat on their own.

@MarymargII we found some ripe ones. Picked them while keeping an eye open for bears. Took a lot of effort for a cup full. (so tiny) But oh so tasty.

Why is it that I always long for something that does not grow in my garden

I have heard that strawberries won't be ripe here (London area) until Canada Day because of the wet and cool spring that we experienced. There have been lots of Canada Day holidays that we have gone out to the berry patch and picked a flat of berries-good things come to those who wait, just like this year's crop of fresh strawberries.
