Along the Riverbank (Part 3)

After taking photographs of wild roses and damsel flies we turned and returned towards the burnt down mill and I told Adam how my mum had swum in the river just before reaching the mill. These days it's considered too dangerous but Mum and her friends were aware of the dangers and kept a safe distance from where the water dropped and passed through to the other side of the mill. Sadly, one day during the early 1940's one of Mum's friends took her little brother there and, being young and unaware of the dangers, he went into the lower water and was sucked through the mill and went right through to the other side and died. This photo is of the safer side of the mill and where Mum spent many a happy hour swimming with her friends during the summer.

It is very beautiful there, but so sad that the little one list his live! God made every part of nature so special, we must just respect it and take good care of it, so that our children can still enjoy it too.

A beautiful place but a sad memory. My Dad always remembered a young boy who drowned in the river where he grew up too, and my Mum also lost a cousin to drowning. Even today with everyone being so risk-averse it's still common.
