Storm coverage is local today. We had a tornado warning here (the sirens woke me from my afternoon nap), and it appears that western Kentucky has been hit again (they had a tornado/wind damage on Friday). Things are quiet here in town, so I'll sing along with another favorite song with "summer" in the title. A disclaimer: no surprises in the top five; and, if you know me, you know what's #1. Meanwhile, here's today's song.
#5: Indian Summer - Joe Walsh
A lot of people only think of Joe Walsh as a humorous ("Life's Been Good" was on this album) songwriter or a guitar hero ("Walk Away," "Rocky Mountain Way"). There's a lot more to him than that. It's hard to remember that, thanks to that voice of his (where he sings like he has a terminal case of congestion), but he's written some superb ballads in his time.
This is one of them. This speaks of the innocence of youth ("sometimes I'm still at the fishing hole...and you never needed bait where we used to go, just a safety pin hook on a bamboo pole") that's long gone ("it's not as easy at is used to be, finding time to let my mind wander"). It's been my favorite from this album from the day I heard it.
Sheesh, that was 41 years ago. But I can still hear it calling.
