I was taking a survey earlier and it was about electric cars, and how many people out of 10 people I knew who had one. I know people with hybrids, but I do not know anyone personally with an electric car. Do you? I think they will become the norm someday, but not now. I don't even know where the nearest charging station would be. I guess most charge at home. I did have an electric bike one time. I charged it at home.

We just changed six of our office cars from Ford Focuses to Nissan Leafs, so we now have six fully electric cars in our department. They are fun to drive, although you wouldn't believe how many times I've tried looking for the gas gauge thinking I need to gas up! I guess it's going to take some getting used to having an electric vehicle!

@snowy22315 That is true, I never thought about that! Electric cars are not abundant here by any means, but I think they are slowly catching on. I'm actually very surprised, our electric cars can accelerate just about as fast as a gas-powered car! I about gave some of my co-workers whiplash when we were driving the other day and one of them told me to "floor it."

I know someone who did have one. Here is the problem - their size. Cars that small can not withstand an accident and be repaired. They are made to destroy themselves in order to save you. While other vehicles can be taken to the body shop after even a small fender bender, small cars like these electric ones are totaled.
The person I know who had learned this the hard way - he was rear ended in what was just above a minimal accident. The cat was a total loss.

@Lolaze They don't make any cars like they used to really, the bodies are so cheap on most models.

I have seen them but do not know anyone with an electric car. I have an electric mobility scooter and love it. The electric cars that I have seen look closed in and claustraphobic.

Not yet. There can be cars mix with electric and gas but that's it. It seems at present not many people prefer to use an electric car. Perhaps the charging takes a longer time and it is not easy to find the charing place, too. And it will be a problem if you have to drive for a long run.

Yes, something like that can be useful, if it is road worthy.

My former boss has a Tesla, and he raves about it. I wouldn't mind getting a hybrid (in fact, I'm researching buying a hybrid Rav4); however, a purely electric car, at this point, is out of the question. A lot of them have a life of only 110 miles, which won't get you across a major metropolitan area like Atlanta, Chicago, or L.A. during rush hour. And, as I always say, AAA can always bring you a gallon of gas, but they can not bring you a gallon of electricity.

I've seen electric cars up in Raleigh but not here in town. Teslas seem to be gaining in popularity up that way. I've also seen some charging stations in parking garages and at malls. Charging stations at points of destination make more sense than stand-alone stations along the road.

Parking garages would be a good place for charging stations.
