I would add another key to any relationship... Communication. It is critical that you talk to each other and listen to each other.

It would take a lot of trust and tons of understanding and I suppose in this day and age, lots of online face time. I've seen it work, but unfortunately more often, I've seen the relationship fall apart.

I had one with my boyfriend, later husband, for many years. We weren't keen on it but it couldn't be avoided. We even worked in different countries, my husband in Italy and I in Germany. Our common flat was in Germany. I was a teacher at secondary grammar school. My husband travelled to Italy for his job as a professor at university.

It can be hard to be so far apart, but they can work with the right amount of dedication. The internet makes it much easier than it has in the past.

I am currently in a long distance relationship and so I believe in them. It is great as you act like a single person while apart then when you meet it is like the start of a relationship which is always so sweet.
