Wine Signs...

Canada
July 1, 2019 10:50am CST
When I started painting I had several business that wanted my wine slate signs. Five wineries, that let people taste the wines and they have a huge area of interesting things to buy and they loved my signs.. I got really tired of having so many so I left a few. The reason was the driving to make sure they had signs at least once a week. Some sold a lot and some didn't... Lately I've had just two wineries both very near my house and I am leaving one next week and then there will be only one. The one that has my wine slate that has a lot of stock in a cupboard, they refill for me, I don't need to see them except once a month and they phone if they get short. The one I'm leaving wanted only a dozen and won't call me to tell me they need more. One time they ask me for 6 instead of a dozen...(they didn't get it) And often when I show up the stand is empty. This past month they forgot to pay me. I eventually got my money but way too late. Not worth my time. Winter in the winery is usually slow so I didn't stop often. I spent a few days making wine signs and took them this week. I did an inventory and over the winter they sold quite a lot, I will be getting a good check in the mail soon... I feel free knowing I am back with the very first winery I sold to. Its run by some good friends that we have know since we moved to Canada...a long time ago. We like their wine too... Doesn't everyone....well maybe not...

It's good to have a regular customer with whom you get on and who you trust to sell your stuff. As you've pointed out, the ones who say they'll sell it but then don't take the trouble to re-order when stocks are low (... or to pay you promptly!) are just a waste of time in the long run. I love your atmospheric photos of the vineyards and the grapes but, as this post is about the slate signs you produce, couldn't we have seen just one of them?

Vineyards look sad during winter, we have vineyards all around us and a winery just at 2 minutes walk from home. I am glad you have good clients and that they are also friends.

@PainsOnSlate They use nets here to protect the grapes, no noises at all during the day.

I am glad that you have narrowed your business down to the one that really matters. Kasey loved the one I bought for her!!

That's nice to know. I still do the bigger slates at the store you bought mine in, they do a great job being in a tourist town. The winery is near my house and they have been good to me and for me since I started painting on slate... I stopped at the other winery today and told them I won't be bringing more... too busy was my excuse...I didn't want to be nasty...

Its probably in all businessess. I have enjoyed all of the wineriers that I have put my art in thier stores except the woman who runs this one...I was going to put up with her until my hubs say way??? There is no money in it because she won't take more than a dozen and he's right. I still haven't seen her to tell her we are over but today is a holiday so I will stop by tomorrow to say it's over.

@PainsOnSlate What Holiday is it? I'm still trying to collect $3000 from a guy I did a bunch of speaker restoration for. It's frustrating.

I'm sorry you had to wait so long to get paid by one person and another didn't tell you they needed signs. It's good you're keeping one faithful one.

Sometimes it is best to have fewer and definitely ones that are reliable and good friends. I know with my plants I have a few people that asks me to deliver. I do for some because they are repeat customers.

@PainsOnSlate It does help if they will or email and let you know these things. It sounds like some of them doesn't bother to take the time to communicate with you.

@velvet53 exactly, they like selling my art but have no intention to encourage me to know when they need more so there will be no more...I feel free.

Definitely the right choice. There's a limit to how much time and effort (and petrol) you can spend for so little return. Glad they are doing well elsewhere!

I’m lucky to have meet the owners of the winery before I started the signs, all I had to do was to show them and they loved them, Makes money for both of us.
