A calico cat and heading off for a few days

While we were in our airBnB at West Cork, Ireland, we had the company of this beautiful calico cat called Myrtle, not my favourite name but the cat was lovely. However, it had a very harsh miaow which seemed strange on such a sweet cat. There was also a mixed breed terrier that was part Patterdale Terrier (Mildred) and a whippet (George). Both were rescue dogs which immediately endeared us to the owners. I’m sorry I can’t remember who but someone on myLot said the great majority of calico cats are female. In other news, we got the caravan out of the shed without taking out a wall which was a good outcome. In a couple of days, we’re off to our first horse endurance ride for the season. On our way to the venue, we’re catching up with the three couples who came on the canal boat with us. While we’re away, I won’t be here so often but I’ll hopefully be able to log in from time to time. Edit: It was @crazyhorseladycx who told me about calico being mostly females.

Patches is a great name for a calico cat. They are lovely cats but then so are tuxedos - and black cats - and white cats!

I keep an eye out for things I think will interest people but lots of photos, especially of animals, I take simple for myself.

i think it was owlwings. i also came to know about calicos being usually female just a few years ago. all of the cats we had growing up that were tricolor were indeed females. however, they had predominantly white bodies and legs. the colors were on the head, face, ears, tail then maybe a blob of black and brown on the back or sides.

You and Vince travel a lot, I envy you. The cat is lovely, I agree that the name is not the best. The very small ginger cat of our neighbors has a powerful meow.

@JudyEv Bubi (the red young cat of my neighbors) is very loud. Yesterday I had the downstairs windows open, we were drinking coffee, he jumped inside and meowed, he almost scared me. It went behind my chair and meowed to get attention. He is cute.

I had a beautiful calico cat when I was a teenager. It was a female. I'm glad you got the caravan out of the shed without destroying anything! I hope you have a fun trip, and I'm sure you'll keep us updated with lots of posts and comments on myLot!

We're making plans now about having a beam put across the top so we can take out the centre post. We measured the width of the van today and we have 4 1/2 inches spare each side. The van is 22 feet long with dual tyres towards the back so no wonder it's a bit tricky to get in and out.

Very pretty cat but like you I don't like the name. I learned something new from you about calico cats. I would love to travel just a fraction of what you do. But beings I can't I always have your stories to read which is great.

We have a rescue calico cat. Also female. We call her Tract. Myrtle is fat ours has a skinny build. But still beautiful. In my family we believe this colour is lucky.

A very handsome little moggie. All of my cats have different meows from each other. Mr B had the best I think, a standard meow, while Gaia's sounds a bit cranky
