Finished at Last

This particular project has been sitting in my need-to-get too pile for the last several weeks. It didn’t need a lot of work to finish it was just waiting to have the binding added to close the raw edges. With too many other projects in process, it was tucked into a large plastic bag (to protect it from a cat who will remain anonymous) and stashed in a corner behind a pile of other things that were waiting for my attention. That corner has now been cleared and the quilt has now been completed. It will be a wedding gift for my daughter’s best friend. The wedding isn’t until December so the quilt is going back into its plastic bag and will once again be tucked somewhere safe. However, it will come out for a while at the end of September since I’m planning to enter it in the local fair). Now I’m off to tackle other projects.

I find sewing very soothing so it has been my favorite way to spend what free time I have for many years. Skill comes with practice and I am forever learning new things about this particular craft. As I tell my husband occasionally. It's cheaper for me to sew than to make regular visits to a therapist .

@SophiaMorros Well you do wonderful work, while it relaxes you! I feel the same about photography, capturing images feels incredibly peaceful to me. =)

Thanks Anna! It's the biggest I've ever made and I really like the fabric I chose.

It is beautiful, a nice pattern and the vines really add a special touch to it. I'm sure that you'll win something at the fair with this entry, and the bride and groom will have many years of warmth and comfort under it. Just one question...…..with a houseful of people, all of the cooking, cleaning and laundry that goes along with that, as well as single-handedly doing all of the costumes for the Shrek play, when did you have the time to even find the quilt that was carefully tucked away let alone complete it?

My house has been in a state of perpetual upheaval since last August when our basement flooded. First we re did the basement floor. Then, instead of finishing the basement, my husband spent several months working on putting in a hardwood (harvested from our back yard) floor in our great-room. Now we're back to finishing the basement. That quilt (I pieced the top in the week after Christmas and did the quilting on a long-arm while visiting my sister in early May) is one of the few items in my house that hasn't actually been misplaced in the past six months!

My mother use to sew quilts when I was younger.
