Maybe An Emergency Kit is Not Such a Silly Idea

With all the wild and dangerous and deadly weather that has been reported around the world, maybe an emergency kit in every home is in order. As you all have noticed, even places that don't have fires, tornadoes, hurricanes and floods are having them lately. This past year seems to be the worst. I'm even wondering when the government and insurance companies will not be able to help the victims of these disasters anymore. Perhaps as a safeguard we should think about getting a good and substantial emergency kit or now- maybe a trunk! ready just in case. Water and cans of edibles should be part of your stash for sure and everyday pain killers and antibiotic creams and ointments. I think things like granola bars and cereal bars would be a good addition. And of course a few bottles of wine for emergencies. Think I'd put a good supply of chocolate in mine too and my computer for myLotting in case I had a lot of time on my hands.... lol! Not really a funny subject but maybe we should seriously think about these days anyway. What would you include in your kit? Pixabay free images

We have our emergency kit and the food stored in the atomic shelter, the computer will run out of power very soon, but we have a battery powered radio to keep in touch with the external world... just in case. We have the official list from the Swiss authorities, but I cannot share, I am sorry.

@MarymargII Exactly the info is vital part of the "defense of our country", so it is considered a "military secret".

We have a radio as well but it would also be so interesting to hear about what is needed from that official list so I could follow it. Its strange they won't let you share as the info is vital. I will save a bit always and then replenish after supplies get a bit old.

I have flashlights and candles, matches and lighters. I have a fire starter. I have a couple batteries and a 1,000 watt solar system. I have plenty of water but I would need to bleach it before drinking. I have home canned foods and about 100 tun canned goods. I also have fishing poles with hooks and line, shotgun with shells, if more food is needed.

I believe I am already for any disasters. I was taught many years ago to always be prepared and that I am. I have enough to supply both of my son's homes and that comes to a total of 8 people. When I buy toilet paper I always buy one extra. Same with kleenex and paper towels. The one thing that I don't have a lot of is meat in the freezer. But both of my son's, their wives and myself know how to hunt and fish.

We have a generator and several other power sources but of course that only last a certain amount of time. But I would probably jump in my car and go to our Florida home or our Pennsylvania home or somewhere else like my cousin in Quebec or my brother in Vermont or Georgia. We have lots of solar lights and batteries and such. My pantry is stuffed so we wouldn't starve.

Great that you have so many getaways and that's the best plan yet. Depending on where or what (that we hope never happens) lol!

Fortunately, we have a home generator and plenty of supplies on hand in case of an emergency. We are always well stocked with water, pain killers, antibiotics, etc. and have never run out of anything - including toilet paper. lol

We have weeks supply of food water and medicine , I have several tactical gear, our house has solar lighting alternative besides the one connected to the grid, it could also run our wi-fi, charge batteries, power banks, cell phones and 2 way radios. I had a rain barrel built at our back yard. I had been prepping for quite sometime and put aside a monthly budget for this purpose. The Philippines is a natural disaster prone country so I think it's wise to be always prepared.

@MarymargII preppers have a saying " store what you eat and eat what you store" we rotate our stash and take note of expiration dates another good guide is " first in first out and last in last out" when it comes to food and medicines. yes other foods are more ideal for long term storage.

@louievill It's true and you have to exchange some of the stuff occasionally when it expires as in foodstuffs and medicines.

Water and a flashlight or something is all I can think of. I would not survive anyway. Too weak and spoiled of conveniences now. Lily.

Living in a state where literally half our year is hurricane season, emergency kits and stockpiles of water and food are staples of Floridians' lives. It's scary how much things have changed due to climate change, because the mantra used to be to have enough emergency supplies for 2-3 days. Now, they encourage us to keep on hand enough emergency supplies to last 2-3 weeks.

We are pretty well equipped for being stuck at home with no power, etc. We don't really have a Go bag ready. We try to make sure cars are full of gas and we have some cash on hand.

Smart planning. I think the canned food is a good idea and definitely water. But cash is definitely a smart addition.

Lots of paper and pens as Intenet connection might not be possible. I need to be able to write no matter what's happening out there. I agree an emergency kit is important.
