You can have snakes as pets different snakes have different personalities and methods of killing. Most pet ones are none venomous to us humans they might bite you but won’t kill you. There are some that will squeeze you and eat you later so you have to know snakes well.

@cacay1 why the face? Snakes are like any others animal. A dog or cat would eat their own owners if they where hungry enough. Snakes don’t eat people.

I've always seen "pet" snakes as more of an ornamental curiosity than as an actual pet. The snake has feelings for its owner. It is much like keeping tropical fish only the fish don't normally bite. They are more decoration than anything else.

Well I have had many snakes of the years and your right they bite but so do dogs and cats. Actually, having owned long term 5 different snakes and temporarily owning snakes at times I have been bite once by a snake and a lot more by dogs. So to say that snakes bite your right they do but so can any pet.
You mention in a comment below about venomous snakes, well here in the US you can not legally have venomous snakes as a pet, you need to have a special license to have possession of one. So if someone has one and gets bit by one, in my opinion, they kind of deserve it since they shouldn't have had it in the first place.
I believe like any other type of pet, the owner and the pet have to develop a bond and that happens through contact and trust. I have learned my snakes over the years and you can kind of sense their feelings and when I can tell they are agitated I leave them alone just like you would do with a dog or cat for the fear that they might lash out at you.
I personally feel they are a good pet, they are low maintenance, they are easy to keep and they are very interesting to me.

I haven't no reason for I don't want to raise a snake as a pet.
