Smoking

Felix and I were just discussing smoking and how we were so foolish to draw nicotine into our lungs. I know why I did. All my friends smoked and it was the popular thing to do. I started as a teenager and smoked until my two oldest sons learned at school how dangerous smoking is. They nagged me until I finally quite smoking, I had to try a few times before I gave it up entirely but they did their job well and I've never had any trouble with my lungs. How many of you started smoking when you were young?

I have never smoked. In fact as time goes by, my boss and my dad also quit smoking. It is not easy but I am glad that they could make it. It is good for them and me as I don't have to suffer second hand smoking

That's great, nicotine is an addiction and it's hard to give it up.

Unfortunately I did start smoking at a young age. I have quit a few times but always end up going back to them. I know I need to quit but haven't been able to.

@velvet53 I'm sorry the med didn't help you stop smoking. I've heard medication helps. I wish you luck. Keep trying.

it is something I didn't like or have an interest in, thank fully, Smoking has caused many deaths in the family. Even close friends who smoke out of there home, not inside, the scent still lingers on them. When I walk in their house, I can smell it. My dad smoked when i was young, the room he smoked in would be filled with smoke., I am thankful my kids did not take up the habit.

@RubyHawk I hope he quits, to prevent health issues, I know many a smoker will say they never had cancer or anything, well they are lucky and hopefully will never get anything. Most are not so lucky.

I smoked as a young adult but I was always a social smoker. When I went out and to parties, I would smoke the rest of the time I didn't. I stopped for a number of years and then in Latvia on relaxing Saturday nights if we had some cocktails my late husband and I would have some smokes. Now I have not smoked for at least two years.

Most people are addicted in a short time. You're lucky that you can take it or leave it.

I never picked up the habit, as I was like your son in that I was always nagging both of my parents to quit. I hated the fact that they smoked. Even though they quit later in life, the damage was done and the long-term effects of smoking played a part in both of their deaths.

@RubyHawk I just hope they realize their mistake in choosing to smoke before it is too late. Keep encouraging them to quit. They know it's bad for them. At some point, they'll have to make a decision on whether or not they want to live a long healthy life or not.

@moffittjc True, but you know how it is talking to an addicted smoker. They don't take it seriously. It's the addiction talking.

I'm sorry to hear that. Without my sons nagging it could have happened to me. And after all that, my middle and youngest son smokes. They seem determined not to quite.

Ugh! I started late in my teens and, wish, now, that I hadn't. My lungs are so bad, even though I quite about 20 years ago. If you haven't started, DON'T. That goes for vaping, too. I don't think there's enough information about vaping yet to know it's long term affects.

I watched my Dad suffer and smoke, suffer and smoke until I was middle aged. I do NOT smoke though I go over board with sugar.

We probably can't avoid all bad habits, but less is better.

I never smoke in my life, all my family members , siblings, relatives also never smoke. We care ourselves for health is wealth. To get sick of bad sicknesses means money to throw to medicines good if cured , if not die too soon. At least you finally quit smoking.

@RubyHawk I'm glad I didn't take it up as I love passive smoking as in standing next to a smoker and breathing in the fumes. I might have found it hard to give up if I'd started. Thankfully we know very few people who smoke nowadays so I don't get much chance to even passive smoke.

No you don't miss it unless you're addicted. You were fortunate, most people that smoke become addicted.
