Caution- Don't ever try to pronounce my name, you will tangle your tongue I really don't like my name.... As per our tradition in SriLanka, when you are naming a baby, first you have to put father's family name, then given name (Your real name) and then surname. So according to this my father's family name is "Kottalbadde Vidanelage" and my given name or my real name is "Amanda Sewwandi" and surname is "Vidanage". So at the end my name is, "Kottalbadde Vidanelage Amanda Sewwandi Vidanage".... LOL see how horrible it is. In my passport it has mentioned as Surname - Vidanage and Given names - Kottalbadde Vidanelage Amanda Sewwandi.... So people here think that my first name is "Kottalbadde"... Omg I hate people calling me Kottalbadde... I always try to explain then about this matter, but they say that, it should be according to the passport....yak.. I always wanted to change this name and use just Amanda Vidanage... But my mum said, it will be a problem if I now try to change it because all the certificates and even NZ visa on that name. So if I change I will have to give Affidavits and it will be a long process....

Your name is indeed a tongue twister. I can't pronounce it. Better not change your name because of a lot of changes and I am sure it will costs a lot of hassle and money.

Yes I have to agree with your mom that changing your legal name can be many times tedious and you have to do a lot of informing many government agencies so that they could adapt your new legal name. As for me, you just have to get used to that very long name and create a nick name for everyone to know you.

@amandajay That might work. But I think that will entail a lot of paperwork as well. Better get yourself with all the papers you have about your name like birth Certificates etc etc.... because you will need that.

It would be a hassle to change all your paperwork. But you have the longest name I've seen, maybe qualify for the worlds guiness record. Hello Mrs. Kottalbadde Vidanelage Amanda Sewwandi Vidanage (I did not try to pronounce it, sorta).

I used to hate my name. Specifically my last name. I used to get bullied because of it. It meant pencil in my language. So you’re Sri Lankan. I have a couple of Sri Lankan friends in Australia. You do have long surnames.

@amandajay Well for me from another culture I find your name very fascinating. We Filipinos have long names too. We inherited the Spanish way of having two first names.

I think it best just to tell family and friends what you'd like to be called but leave all the legal forms as they are.

Geez, I thought I had a bad enough battle when I had people pronounce my name, it is even more annoying because my name isn't even that hard but people still say it wrong and I even have family members that misspell it all the time. That does sound like a pain though. I couldn't even imagine.
