My new $15,000 art piece, my legal action against Schoenberg Guitars, my new baseball, my witnessing of verbal/emotional child abuse, and my Everett and Jones BBQ: Just another day in the life of...

OK, so today was a busy day. I worked at the preschool, helped a couple of 4-year-old boys who had been hitting each other play together without arguing, picked up my Martin D-18 guitar at Schoenberg's elite guitar store in Tiburon, and stopped and visit a Tiburon art gallery (I really liked what I saw there)
I then drove to Berkeley, ate BBQ at Everett & Jones, and pretended not to notice as a man high on crack cocaine berated and physically threatened his his girlfriend, using the F-word and the B-word without restraint, all in front of his 3-year-old son who sat there looking sad, but also didn't dare move.
I am too pooped (remember that I came home on BART from the Giants game late last night) to write more. But I'll fill in whatever details folks are interested in tomorrow. Or even tonight. I'm sipping Ch*ardonnay and am almost ready to cras....uhngh.

I'm amazed you had restraint when witnessing that, sadly i'd probably have gotten involved and caused a big altercation.....

"Mutual ignoring" is a big part of life in urban environments. I wanted to say, "Dude, stop cursing in front of your kid." And, "Dude, stop disrespecting your women in front of your kid. She ain't a b*tch." And "Dude, teach your kid something positive. Sing the ABC song with him." But I ate my potato salad and beef briskit (spicy) and watched the traffic go by.

@TheHorse I am sure I would have had to go sit by her and dial 911 in his face.

I'm hoping she'll send me the photos of the pieces I looked at. They were frigging incredible. Cell phone photos can't capture what I saw, but if she sends them to be before she heads to Europe, I'll pass them along. I was IMPRESSED, and I'm a jerk and hard to impress.

So hard to not give someone a piece of your mind when out in public.

@TheHorse If it became physical I would have snapped a picture of the abuse and called the authorities.

@ElusiveButterfly I don't carry a cell phone and didn't have my camera with me that day. Had it become physical, I would have pretended not to notice, calmly walked inside, and told my buddies it was time for them to call 911.

What have you seen that you liked in the art gallery? I hate when men are so abusive, particularly in front of young kids. I suppose that where you live it's not a matter to call the police. Here you may guess that someone would have called.

@TheHorse They call here, I remember one evening that I heard a man and a woman fighting, it was not far from us, but I could not understand from where the voices were coming out. Five minutes later a car of the police was in front of their apartment. I do not know who called, but someone surely did.

It is so horrible when you witness something like that yet know there´s nothing you can do.

I'm...still...awake...
I actually enjoy it when things motivate me. The guitar story is a learning experience, the art gallery intoroduced me to a whole new world, the BBQ was delicious (and I got to high five my "home boy" who works there), and the domestic stuff re-motivated me to work with kids from "underserved" communities.

Sounds like an interesting day, it’s hard to hold back when you watch any man berate a woman, when you add a child to the mix it is even worse, I’d hate to think what both woman and child endure!

It was an interesting day. And some fun a new experiences were involved. I'm a "mandated reporter," because I'm a child psychologist. What that dad was doing to his kid was SO close to abuse. But I chose to eat my BBQ and ignore what was happening.
