Lysine to the Rescue!

I've always known that L'Lysine is an amino acid that can help with the problem of mouth sores as in canker sores, and even cold sores. It is a supplement that prevents the herpes simplex virus from growing.
I worked in a Vitamin Store for several years and learned all about it but it was only lately that I actually tried it. Taking 500 mg. once or twice daily can help with mouth sores, cold sores and even shingles!
Well ow! All these things really hurt!So I just bought some and started taking it as I was getting painful canker sores on my tongue. I have had these before and it's not funny.
It really works and began to help right away after I took a capsule daily for a few days. So if you're prone to these painful sores it's well worth it. There is also topical Lysine for cold sores but the caplets are relatively inexpensive and easy to use.
Thank God some problems have such an easy fix!

@MarymargII I had in the past and it is true that they are painful. The causes of canker sore can be so many, I do not know why I had in the past and no more now.

@LadyDuck It could be your diet. We all change our diets slightly and I think it's also something I've been eating that offset the balance.

I have been lucky throughout my life not to get canker sores that often. But I did have Shingles a few years ago and wish I would have known about L'lysine capsules back then! Anytime I do start to get a canker sore, I will immediately (and frequently) rinse my mouth with warm salt water. The salt also is effective at helping kill the herpes virus.

@MarymargII It's amazing how much salt water helps heal so many ailments. Maybe it's because we originally came from the ocean when we first started to evolve as multiple-celled organism! lol

Yes you're probably right and i am used to rinsing and gargling with salt water when I get a sore throat. I will also try it with canker sores- it's a bad pain so anything will help!!

You are right, most of those canker sores are a result of some dietary deficiency.

In this case they say that L'Arginine and L'Lysine compete for absorption in the body so maybe I have too much of the Arginine???

@MarymargII that's very possible but a lot of other nutrient deficiencies would cause the same and we understand our bodies and our diet better.

Lysine is also heart healthy and works well with Vita C and B50s to strengthen the heart so that is good news.

I think that if one was on the ball they would even try it daily if they are threatened with shingles.

Yes and Judy I noticed it was trying to come back so I started taking a 500 mg. capsule TWICE a day and that nipped it pretty quick.

I have not had any in years! It took forever for them to go away, the last one was because my toothbrush slipped into my gum.
