1925 - Scopes Trial - High school biology teacher, John T. Scopes, is found guilty of teaching evolution and is fined $100.
1969 - Neil Armstrong becomes the first person to walk on the moon.
1983 - The world's lowest temperature in an inhabited location is recorded at Vostok Station in Antarctica at -89.2 Celsius (-128.6 Fahrenheit).
1951 - Robin Williams was born. He was an American actor, singer, producer and comedian. He is remembered for his role as Mork in the Mork & Mindy show on TV (see below). Some of his movies: Popeye, World According to Garp, Moscow on the Hudson, Good Morning Vietnam, Dead Poets Society, Awakenings, Aladdin, The Fisher King, Patch Adams, Mrs. Doubtfire, Jumanji, The Birdcage, Good Will Hunting and the Night at the Museum trilogy.
He won 1 Academy Award, 2 Primetime Emmys, 6 Golden Globes, 2 Screen Actors Guild Awards and 4 Grammys. He took his own life in 2014.
