Putting My Money Where My Feet Are

Last summer the inside of my hiking boots started showing serious signs of wear, I postpone buying new hiking boots because I knew they would be fairly expensive and I’m really not very fond of shopping. Boots and shoes are something that I really can’t order online since I need to try them on to make sure they fit my feet properly.
We leave on vacation a week from tomorrow so it was time to stop procrastinating and purchase the necessary footwear.
I don’t beleive in spending a lot of money on clothes. I like to be comfortable and I prefer to look reasonably neat and decently put together but for the most part I can accomplish that by shopping thrift stores.
Footwear is the one area where I splurge. I put a lot of miles on my feet over the course of a year and I’ve learned that mistreating my feet leads to all sorts of problems. Inferior shoes make my back hurt and hiking on uneven trails without ankle support has occasionally had painful consequences.
I also needed to buy new socks. I’m a sock snob. A few years ago one of my children bought me a couple of pairs of Darn Tough socks for Christmas and I’ve never been happy with other socks since. Unfortunately, even though the socks have outlasted any other brand I’ve ever owned it IS possible to eventually wear them out and it was time I bought some new ones. They’re good but they’re also Darn Expensive!
So, I went shopping this afternoon. Twenty minutes was all it took for me to spend more money on clothing my feet than I will likely spend on the rest of my body for the next three years.
Oh well. My feet should be set for a while!

Shoes! I'm not looking forward to the end of sandal season. My favourite shoes are still....no shoes.

Me too! As you could see from yesterday morning's photo. I even take my sandals off whenever possible.

@paigea MrsJ usually buys them at Mast General Store where she can buy four pair for the price of three. She's also purchased them on clearance from L.L.Bean.

I've seen how much damage a lifetime of bad shoes can do. I'd prefer to avoid those problems!

I usually go to thrift stores to buy $2.00 gym shoes. I am hard on shoes. But, God & Santa must have been in cahoots... Last month I went out-of-state with a roommate to visit her family. We went to a Skechers store. I thought I would look around even though I knew I'd never be able to afford a pair. I like on a budget. As I walked down the aisles, I found a pair on really, really liked. Clearance. I paid... drumroll please... $9.99!

That’s a good investment. Clothes you can be thrifty if you want but foot wear must be sturdy and comfortable. Your feet takes you to places just like a car. You wouldn’t want your car to mulfunction midway.

I bought expensive (for me) shoes before we went overseas. I wanted something-other-than sneakers that I could wear all day and were okay (for an old lady) to wear in the evening. I have certainly got value from the ones I bought. Other than that, like you, I mostly shop at thrift stores or occasionally at online sales.
