Do You Know About This Private Railway Line We Have In India?

In India after the independence all the railway lines have been taken over by the Government and they are now nationalized into one railways that is Indian railways! But despite that we have got one private railway line that is present in Maharashtra state measuring about 189 kilo meters, which runs between Achalpur and Yavatmal! This is known as Shaku-ntala Railways ans was started in 1903 by an British Company, Central Provinces railway Company! Have you ever heard about this private railway line?

Yes, I know in fact this is some thing beyond one's imagination! I was also surprised initially when I have come know about it some 30 years back!

@AKRao24 In Italy there are many small private railways. One of those private companies TILO deserves the north of Italy and south of Switzerland.

I haven't heard about this line before. Many of our railway lines have been allowed to deteriorate and are no longer used.

Umm...This is the only private railway that is prevailing even after the independence of the country in 1947! Now the Government of India is having the plans to take up this Railways in 2020 and convert it into broad gauge line!

@AKRao24 Very early in our history the settlements of Melbourne and Sydney were always fighting and each chose a different gauge to the other. It made for huge expense and problems later.

Nothing has been mentioned about it anywhere! But i recall hearing some decades back that the lease was in force then! I am not sure!

I have never heard of it and I am not sure the private railway is still functioning until today.

@kepweng , India is a very big country we have bicycles, Rikshaws, Auto Rikshaws, Animal drawn Carts, Pulled Carts, Scooters, Motor cycles, Cars, taxis, Buses, Hover crafts, Metro trains, Trains, Ships, ferries, Aero planes and Helicopters as our transportation! May be I am missing some of them....oh like mono railway!
