We have a Filipino phrase "kung may itinanim, may aanihin" meaning if you plant something you will harvest something.
In our rural village very few house you cannot see without planted growing vegetable plants and fruit bearing trees.
Actually some of the vegetables are not really planted, they just grow there. The seeds from the previous grow have grown when the rain had poured this season.
In my garden, as you see in the collage, are some of the common endemic local vegetables like parda, kumpitis, kabatiti and eggplant. There are others like chili, malunggay (moringa) and squash.
In the rice field there are saluyot (jute vegetable), purslane, wild ampalaya among others.
We are in healthy living because of rainy season. And they are free.

This is one of the best reason why we need to grow our own vegetables in our backyard.
