While browsing through the news in 'Apple'--I came across the above news item which says a man defrauded through tlelemarketing - selling of time shares --Approximately, 58 Canadians were defrauded an estimated US$21,710 in the decade long scheme. The victims came from Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, B.C., Saskatcjhewan, New Brunswick and Qiebec.
The accused pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud in the same. In total,he defrauded victims out more than US$780000.
The Judge oirdered him to pay more than US$212000 in restitution.
Thank God, I have not come across such schemes and stay guarded. In fact I resisted temptation to deposit around US $100 way back in 2000 in a similar defrauding scheme in Salem, India . ---- The person will collect this initially--offer supposed document writing (useless telephone addresses) and tempt by paying him. Thereafter he will take further huge amounts and defraud people when the cycle breaks,
We must stay guarded against such schemes, I am sure mylottians will be more careful in this regard. please share your experience,

I attended a seminar put on by the local police and court system about avoiding fraud. It is interesting the things that these thieves will do. From calling and acting like a loved one who has ended up in jail in a different country and desperately need money to pay fines so they can come home, to individuals who will knock on your front door to sell you a service that you probably need and at a very reduced price, but when the work is done (if it is done) It is not up to the standard that the rules of their business (or the law) require. Or they have an investment that your friend has supposedly put money into and of course you want to do the same, but you MUST do it now, tomorrow will be too late.
Always be wary when strangers ask anything of you. Evaluate what they say very carefully, Always take time to research their claims and avoid the temptation to act quickly.
