Strange corn cob

I bought 2 ears of corn last week at the grocery store. I finally got around to peeling one of them today for dinner only to discover that it was totally funky. There were only like half as many kernels as there should have been but the ones that were there were huge. I decided not to eat the weird ear of corn and just give it to my parrot to tear apart. She LOVES eating corn off the cob. . . or any other way for that matter. Luckily the other ear of corn was "normal" so I will be cooking that in my Instant Pot in a little while. Have you had fresh corn on the cob lately?

Ever since we have had the immigration of people from other parts of South America, the market has been filled with other kinds of corn. Peruvians make many dishes with a very white corn with giant kernels. I have also seen lately corn the has multicolored kernels. I don´t know whether that corn is imported or whether it is planted here now. I eat corn on the cob in summer but it is winter here.

Multicolored kernels is called "Indian corn" around here. People use it for decoration in the fall.

That's too bad that one of the cobs was like that. It sounds like that cob of corn was picked before it was ripe.

Not in a long time. I do prefer canned corn every once in awhile. One's better than none though.

I stopped having corn on the cob because it's too rough on my fragile teeth. One wrong bite and a tooth will shatter.

Yes, we've had some wonderful corn on the cob this summer. Both times, it was so delicious! Our store has corn on the cob, with a large garbage can to husk it into. I check out the kernels, to make sure they aren't funky, as some of them tend to be. Sorry you didn't get to enjoy it, but Scarlet sure didn't care

yeah the store says "please don't husk the corn" so I don't. I hate the people that open it a little. So it is a crapshoot for me. haha

@NJChicaa In our store, they provide special bags for the husked corn and they feed the husks to farm animals!

I don't like the corn too much and haven't tried it. Guess that it is very tasty.

It did not mature enough and was harvested already. Or it may be that the cob has some kind of defect in its development that is why it is not fully covered.
