I’m Shrinking!

This photo of my granddaughter (on the left) made me laugh. She and her friends at camp are all 11 years old. Notice the differences in height? Well, I have always been around 5 feet 5 1/2 inches (166.37cm), but shrunk to 5 feet 4 inches. That’s what happens as we age. My husband jokes around that before you know it, he will need a magnifying glass to see me. I’m sure my older myLot friends can relate.

You're doing better than me with shrinkage. I was 5'2" when I was in the Navy way back when. I've since shrunk 4 inches. I'm now 4'10". I don't want the doctor to do another bone scan. I might lose another inch. It wouldn't surprise me though, but I hope I haven't lost any more height. I would love to get back what I lost in height. Now if there was only a way to take off the weight while putting on the height. I could handle that. Great picture of your granddaughter at camp.

I think it’s a female problem and age or illnesses have something to do with it. Too bad we couldn’t get stretched at the rack! Thank you. Thank goodness it’s an all girls camp, because they are in their sleepwear.

@DianneN I didn't realize it was their sleepwear. I know my mother and grandmother, her mom, both shrunk a lot. Grandma more than my mother as my mother took after grandpa as he was the short one. Grandma was about as tall as Mom when she passed. Mom was about as tall as me when she passed. Inherited? I think this is one thing they could have kept to themselves. I need a stepstool to get into my cupboards.

Which means I soon begin shrinking also because I'm growing older. My 2nd son also is smaller guy unlike his two brothers.

The one in the middle is very tall. Kids and people come in different heights. I have no idea if I have shrunk.

Yes, she looks as if she can be my granddaughter’s mother in some photos. Men don’t seem to have this shrinking problem.

I always feel like I shrunk too when I'm around my family as their all taller than me. I am 4'11'' but with shoes on I'm 5'0''. I've always been short because my mom is short too.

She is very pretty! Yes peope do shrink with age. Blame it on gravity and the depleting calcium in the bones caused by the ageing process. You need to drink more milk or take calcium supplements to not reach the magnifying glass level. And continue your yoga routine as stretching helps maintain the posture and fight gravity. (Some people become hunched due to lack of stretching and poor posture).

That's a beautiful picture of those pretty ladies. Perfect for friendship day .. Yeah, I get it. As we get old, we shrink. Also, our mind will become like that of a child's one. It just reminds of "All world's a stage, William Shakespeare"!!

They must be very far north to have to lean that much. You know how the curve of the earth gets more pronounced the farther north you go.

I have not considered if I am shrinking or not but I had a good example with my dear mom. As I grew she was usually up to my shoulders. Then one day she is standing in front of me and I notice that she only reaches up to my chest. That was one I started teasing her about becoming so short.

@DianneN I see in the picture that the one is the middle is very tall. I have never been tall. When I go to the grocery store if I do not find a ladder thing to climb on because wouldn't you know it they put things I want on a tall shelf and I cannot reach it at all. I ask people that walk by if they can help or someone maybe that works there.

My mom measured 168 cm and now she is 164 at age of 61. I think with age we all tend to shrink. I am at 171 cms but I think I too will start shrinking with age. If I remember it correctly, my mom started shrinking post 55. So I still have a decade before I start shrinking.

@DianneN Being tall I just try to work on my posture. Tall people tend to stoop with growing age and that can lead to other problems.
