Social Media Can Hurt

I am a nice person. I do not insult people.
Yesterday I joined in on a Twitter conversation regarding strip clubs and going to them for bachelor parties and such. I added that my husband's friend and his wife came here for their honeymoon. The first thing this guy asked to do was to go to a strip club. He was on his honeymoon! I said that I found this to be totally disrespectful and selfish. Most people in this conversation were on the same page as to how wrong this kind of behaviour is. I wasn't ruffling any feathers or going against the grain. I was joining in on an intelligent discussion.
Today I woke up to a response to my comment. It said, "The only thing disrespectful is your haircut and those glasses." Seriously? I looked at the person's photo and could have said a whole lot of ugly about that person. I decided not to say anything. Actually, I'm surprised no one else said anything to his mean comment. I finally decided to say something - "Judge not lest ye be judged."
That's all I said. I figure I was more or less taking the high road but I really couldn't let it go. It was a hurtful, unnecessary, DISRESPECTFUL, and totally false statement. I could have told him to take a look in the mirror before making a comment like that, but I didn't.
This is the first time I have ever had such an "attack" on social media. I know when you are on here you have to take strangers' comments who are hiding behind a computer screen with a grain of salt. But when an insulting comment is actually directed at you, that thick skin kind of dissolves.
Why can't people be nice? Why do they have to be so hurtful? What a sad state this world has come to. There are so many positive benefits to social media, but those using it to be hurtful need help. I only wish someone else had come to my defense on that comment like a lot of people do.
But... whatever... just got this off my mind and onto this forum and now it's forgotten.
Keep happy, everyone. And be nice.

@avi256 He wasn't venting, though, was he. It was a mature discussion and THAT is his input? I should go back and see if he commented to other people. I don't know how out of the tons of comments he managed to pick me to be an a$$ to.

social media 'tis filled with trolls. folks with mental troubles 'n low self-esteem. they seem to get off'n insultin' others. treat 'em no diff'rent than if'n someone said such to yer face - jest walk 'way. why?? coz all they wish's a reaction - such gives 'em the feelin' 'f power.

There are people who troll others on social media solely for the joy of being a jerk and leaving nasty comments. They're trying to get a rise out of people and start trouble. Best just to ignore or delete it.

There are so many people who will comment on a question posed and say "who cares?" My first thought is, ignore it and keep scrolling if you don't care. This discussion had many, many comments and had a hint of Christianity in it due to the nature of the subject. Why was he even reading the posts?
