There are 3 types of diabetes. First is type 1 diabetes or insulin dependent diabetes, another is type 2 diabetes or non-insulin dependent diabetes and the last is secondary diabetes with different syndrome. It is important to recognize that not all children with diabetes have type 1 diabetes. The type 2 diabetes increased universally especially in adolescents. Diabetes is the second most common chronic disease in childhood. There are two peaks age for diabetes, the first at ages 5 to 7 years and second in the age of 16 to 18 years. Diabetes affects boys and girls equally. In the world the highest incidence rates of diabetes are found in Finland, Sweden and Denmark.
