You believe in luck or hard work?

Emerson writes- Shallow men believevin luck ,wise and strong men in cause and effect. Whenever a calamity falls upon us or money is lost we directly go to the astrologers instead of working hard. There is a proverb"No pain no gain" and God helps those who help themselves. I think that there is nothing in lines of palm because they also have luck who don't have hands even. "Luck is the crutch of cowards only" "Hard work is the key to success" Should we give more importance to our luck than hard work? What do you think about it?
