I'm sort of in shock today. I found out one of my former OBs died. He was the first doctor I had when I was pregnant with my son. He was a Scottish man accent and all. They eventually transferred me to a female doctor but I remember him very clearly. It's difficult to forget that accent and that larger than life personality.
I remember my husband loved this guy because he loved listening to him talk and he had this big booming voice so you could hear him wherever he was in the building from wherever you were in the building. Even after I was transferred to a different doctor I would see him in passing since they shared the same office. He was such a nice guy and always made me laugh. I was so sad to hear of his passing he was only 66 which while not super young it's really not that old either by today's standards. I have no clue what happened to him I just know I wasn't expecting to read about his death.
I was so bummed reading the news. You just don't forget a man like that. Just listening to him joke around and laugh put a smile on my face. I never heard a bad thing about the guy. He was a nice guy and a good doctor. My husband was sad about his passing too. It's difficult to forget the only Scottish guy you really knew. I have met a lot of foreign people in the US living in a college town but typically I meet more people from Asia, Mexico, or Canada than Europeans. Apart from two camp counselors at 5th-grade camp and a substitute teacher from England in elementary school, I haven't met any other people here from Europe at least not where I live. It's going to be difficult for his coworkers and patients. I was only his patient for a few months and it still made me sad so I can only imagine how sad it is for his regular patients and those closest to him.

Good doctors, especially ones who are great communicators, are worth their weight in gold. We can feel very vulnerable when we lose them
