Disaster struck Tuesday night

We had a flash flood due to a severe thunderstorm. The roof of our old section of the nursing home gave way in areas and it poured in the 2 units. A CNA took a video of it on her phone. She showed me when she checked on me. The fire department was here. I saw it raining cats and dogs inside. It rained in the residents' rooms too.
Those residents on those 2 units ( about 70 residents ) had to be evacuated to the hospital side of the medical center. It is a medical center and nursing home under one roof.
The hospital has 4 units that lay empty. The ER, lab, X-ray , CT, MRI areas are functioning g and there is a very small census in the hospital due to hospitals failing. So the empty beds are now filled with nursing home residents.
The residents will remain on the hospital side until the ruined units here in our old section is fixed.

I was okay, but 2 units were badly damaged. They had to put a new roof on the home. The units are closed and only workers with hard hats can enter.

I am sorry to read this! I see you are in Commerce Georgia. We are in Toccoa Georgia which is just about an hour away, and we sure had a big storm also about that time you had a storm. I hope the building is repaired soon. Thank goodness no one was killed.

Yes, everyone is okay. I have a retired nurse friend who lives in rural Toccoa. Outside the little city. It may be little but i always got lost there.

Thank God that no one was injured. I'm surprised that the pipes failed like that. Usually the pipes are checked on a regular basis. But I can't judge as if it's like the wiring and PG&E equipment it's easy to have the stuff fail, it's harder to repair after it has failed. Hopefully the hospital/nursing home had insurance on the building so that the repairs won't cost as much.

@OreoBrownie I hope so, insurance has a way of wiggling out of paying for things. You may have a fight on your hands with the insurance company if they decide not to pay for the damages. I'm praying that they do pay up easily so that the damages can be completed and the people can be moved back into their "homes" again.

Yes it was. 2 units have been moved to the unused portion of the hospital, so at least the residents didn't have to be rehomed.

It's really hard when disaster strikes. I'm glad to hear the residents were moved to the hospital and there's enough room for them.
