I look back on some of the silly things my generation was all about. One thing is for sure, it was all about HAIR. Most of us had long hair and most men had beards. I remember a guy I dated, he had long hair and a beard but one day when he came to pick me up he was clean shaven and I had no clue who the heck he was, he looked so different ......... I don't know why he never called me after that Oh well, just silly memories. Speaking of which, here's a song I almost forgot about. Hope you enjoy it:
Electric Light Orchestra peaked at number 12 in the UK chart in October 1973 with "Showdown" and are seen here performing the song on Top of the Pops the sam...

I remember the 'hair' days of my youth. I never had the hair though as my mother kept my hair short. I would have like to wear it long, but that didn't happen until after I left home.

@rebelann I don't know when I started cutting my hair again. I know I still had it long in college. I graduated in 1996. So maybe when the century turned I started cutting it shorter.

It seems to have been more popular among Americans and British, I cannot recall if men in other countries in Europe would grow their hair long.

@rebelann In the UK they did, if you remember the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Not so much in the other European countries.

And I find it funny - when we have a school reunion and I meet a person I was really friendly with at school but they look completely different, I have a lot of trouble relating to them, simply because they look so different.

I have the same problem only I never go to any reunions, I never really connected with any of my school mates.

I think the school reunions here are usually put together every 10 years @JudyEv is that the same there?

@rebelann The first couple were a bit strange but I quite enjoy them now. We don't have them too often. Once I left school I never had anything more to do with most of them.

When I was in my teens, university days, yes long hair was something that attracted me to men. I never dated one though. But thinking about it, I never dated anybody when I was a student. It was only after I graduate in the university that I finally dated someone and he was a skin head.

@rebelann I graduated high school at 16. Back then it was the norm. But now the educational system has changed and is almost the same as the US. So these days students graduate high school at 18.

I think most of us did, well, women at least. I've know a few guys that kept their hair long even while looking for jobs, they'd simply bind it at the back when it came to job interviews and of course it always depended on what type of job these guys were after.

When I was a child, in the 1970s, I thought guys with beards were "cool." When I finally could, I grew one, But it was basically the same color as my face. Major disappointment. Jesse Winchester was my main idol. Note the beard and the beauty of his music.

But his hair was too short, most of the guys I dated in the early 70s had long hair and some had beards.

I've known many people in the past with really long hair but not so much anymore. Most old folks like me don't have the patience to take care of long hair, it's more of a hassle.

Yep, but he didn't warn me he would shave before he came to get me, the damn fool thought I should recognize him even though I'd only seen him with a thick heavy beard

@JJ has long beard... I tried growing it but I can't maintain it... . So I shave it before it start creating problems for me like food starts sticking it. You know its hard to clean beards... Because after cleaning your face you have a wet beard which can later wet your handkarchiefs and upper part of your shirt

I knew that food sometimes ends up in beards but I never thought about wet beards before.
