Shrinks Remembering Past Patients

When I was in college, one of my instructors, who was a psychotherapist, told us students that due to the fact that therapists work with so many people with mental health issues, they don't always remember some of those they've worked with over the years.
But he went on to say that they often remember you.
He said that sometimes you'll run into one of your past patients at places like the grocery store and they'll say, "Hey how have you been?" and you may not remember them.
So if you work with a shrink and run into him/her years later, he/she may or may not remember you.
On the other hand, years ago I was in a respite home. And a counselor who worked there remembered me, even though we hadn't worked with each other in nearly ten years.
He clearly had a good memory!

I taught piano for many years and I'm ashamed to say people come up to me and say I used to teach them but I'll have absolutely no recollection of them.

I find this with students I have worked with, as well.

I'm not surprised they wouldn't remember their patients when they have a lot of them. He did have a good memory.

I usually will recognize that I know someone even if their name escapes me.

I had been up against a shrink in court many times, the shrink usually did side with me about the condition of the person I was having evaluated. I see him all the time at the post office, he is a stranger person, he will nod but man.... he walks so stiff.
