Tamagotchi was originally a virtual pet game from my youth (1980's-90's timeframe) I remember getting one in a McDonald's "Happy Meal" actually.
I also remember being terrible at taking care of the thing.
As I remember, my older sister was obsessed w/them, I think she had a couple different ones.
I've heard/read that the Tamagotchi has been reinvented for modern times. I don't think I'd get a new one though, I have plenty of real world responsibility, I don't need a virtual one added on to that.

I had a baby, a cat and I think a frog at one point. I saw that they were re-inventing them several years ago. I thought about getting them, but decided against it for now. I don't think I'd have the time to deal with it either. I do think they have a virtual pet type thing online though.

As far as virtual pets goes, my son used to have a "Talking Tom" game where he could feed/take care of a gray virtual feline. He loved it.

@jnrdutton My niece used to love Talking Tom, but I'm not sure she had one where she could feed it.

I would not get one either nor for my kids, I think it would take up a lot of valuable time better spent else where, it's like taking care of a pet minus the real life resposibilities that come with it like protecting from predators and wiping poop lol. People wasted so much time and resources chasing Pokemons.

I had one too, but that is about all I remember of it lol. I have seen the newer models of them. Might get one for Eli, but wouldn't want one myself.

I remember this one. My younger co workers at that time went gaga over it.

I used to have that toy before when i was still small.
I think it is fun in a way to have. Very convenient as well because it does not become messy as having a real pet.
It is a nice way to kill time and it does not cause any hassle as compared to having real pets.
It does not feel that sad if you lose your tamagotchi pet compared to losing a real pet.
But then it could not replace the feeling of having a real pet.
Tamagotchi are not that popular anymore nowadays but you can still buy them somewhere online.
