Would you spend $26,000 on a wedding dress?

I saw someone on FB was selling her wedding dress. Don't remember what she was selling the dress for, and if she even mentioned the price, but the person said she originally paid $26,000 for it. Wow! That is just crazy! Even if you can afford it, why waste so much money on something you will only wear once? That makes absolutely no sense to me. My wedding dress with alterations was close to $2,000 and even that is too much I think.

To each his own; but I would never spend that much. My beautiful dress was under $200 and was the Bride's Magazine cover dress from the year before.

@lovebuglena This was in 1970 BUT to go to a salon and pick out a dress at the time was a minimum of $1,000 which I thought for that time very expensive. I got mine at J C Penney.

No matter the price I would never wear a wedding dress that someone else wore. But a dress for $25 is unheard of. You got lucky.

It does seem ridiculous to spend that much.

Mine was about $1000 after alterations I believe. I would never spend that much money on a wedding dress. That is a lot more than my whole wedding cost!

My wedding cost us probably $63K or so, not counting the dress. But parents paid. Mine gave 30K and his gave 30K. And my mom paid for the dress. The rest was on us.

@NJChicaa Hubby made a mistake and guaranteed 200 guest minimum. Only 150 or so showed up but we had to pay for 200 anyway.

@lovebuglena no way we were way more low-key. Ours cost about $14,000.

People who blow money like this astound me. Even, like you said, if you HAVE the money to blow. My wife and I spent $3000 TOTAL for the entire wedding, and it was awesome.

@porwest Wow! That's cheap but then maybe when you got married that was considered a lot.

I won't spend so much on it. It is a kind of waste money in my opinion. It is likely I won't wear the wedding gown again and it is no need to spend so much for it.

I agree. It is definitely a waste of money. And unless you are married and plan to renew your vows you won't wear the dress again...

It is crazy to waste money like that. I wonder what made her dress that expensive aside from the obvious markup? Were there diamonds or crystals in it?

How much did Melania Trump's dress cost?! If I had it I would go for it!! You only get married eight times!!! Liz Taylor got Versace to donate her a dress for her last wedding to Larry!!

I do not see why people would spend that much for a dress. With that much money; a person can make a good down payment on a house.

No, not when I could buy a car or put a down payment on s house for that cost!

That is very smart. I now think that spending tens of thousands on a wedding could be put to much better use. Like you said down payment on a house or maybe traveling the world...

i don't think so. i don't want to give much money for something i'm going to wear just once. my mom didn't buy a wedding dress, she bought elegant skirt and shirt and she wore that on some other events too + invested money in our family. i think that's much better than giving so much money on a dress.

A skirt and a top can work as well but it is much harder to find a skirt and a top that really go together than to find a dress.

That's a crazy price even if in the U.S, it doesn't make sense to common people.

That is a lot to pay. Maybe that could have helped towards the down payment of a first house. I donĀ“t know. My mother made my wedding gown (not a long one) and I was perfectly happy. I was marrying the man, not the dress.
