Learning how to share online when you don't want to share at all

Just reaching out to others on this platform to see how anyone may feel about this topic. In this age of social media, to be a really good freelancer you need to be consistent about sharing online among other things to be successful. This is a big problem that I'm having because I really don't like to share too much at all especially online. But this is a big way to get attention and to get clients. I heard that some people don't even recognize you for a job unless you have some sort of following somewhere on social media. Supposedly some employers instantly look at your social media platform to get to really know you to get a job today. Thoughts?

I have heard the same but also that they are more interested to see if you are of good character which I am sure you are!

I know that we must be careful what we post online. Our words and thoughts are here forever.

@Tampa_girl7 I agree. I feel we have to be careful here on MyLot as well. Look at everything that comes out about people's posts that they're showing on the news. People are losing their jobs from stuff they may have said or done many years ago. You even have to be careful about where you may have a picture posted and that's not totally up to you. Other people may post a picture that they've taken of you. It's so crazy. It almost makes you not want to be out and about at all among not wanting to post your thoughts and feelings about things.

@TishaMears I'm not on FB or Twitter and don't have a mobile so I never share anything from myLot. I still manage to make enough to get paid each month.

@JudyEv It's funny that you say you haven't heard of this when MyLot is all about sharing your thoughts, etc. to be paid

@JudyEv That's great! I'm still working on that. I guess it also helps that you're not on any other social media to distract you when here on MyLot. As you can see, I'm not always in the mood to share.

@TishaMears You are very right but i think people need coaching on how to do it in order to get attention. otherwise, you can tarnish your image as well

@Bennkz03 Absolutely! I think that's another reason why I don't like to share. I think alot about my "image" and about putting my business out there that I don't really want others to know. It's a dilemma because in order to get others to trust you online you kinda have to put yourself "out there".

@TishaMears yeah you are right but at the same time it's worth trying by maybe creating another account which you can use for learning purposes until you acquire much-needed experience

@Bennkz03 It's not about the experience of sharing online... I have many online accounts... It's about wanting to share at all. I'm an introvert among my other issues. I don't really like sharing online. I have moments when I'd might like to share and other times when I just don't. Thank you for advice, though.

@TishaMears The thing I always try to help people keep in mind is that social media and the Internet in general is public. I can still find stuff I posted with a penname many years earlier. It's all out there. It really never goes away. Even a deleted tweet can be captured by someone and kept and it never goes away. If you think it should be private, it should remain private. Nothing you post on the Internet or in social media is ever truly private.

@porwest Definitely! That's why it's hard for me to post. I'm mostly a private person. So it's very hard for me to post sometimes. When I see what others may post, it blows my mind how open they can be about their personal life.

@porwest I agree. There's some examples of people losing their jobs that 's been shown on the news. I'm very careful with social media. I don't understand how people feel that they can just post and say anything online. I feel that if you would feel uncomfortable saying something about a person or whatever in person about certain things, then you shouldn't post it online. Alot of people take the anonymity of being not seen to a different level. Not all your thoughts and opinions need to be known by everybody. I feel some things are better left unsaid.

Life is such a balancing act. Sometimes it is hard to know what to do. I know my employer watches our social media.

@Janet357 Absolutely! I'm very careful about what I post... But almost too careful where I don't want to post anything. That could be a problem as well.
