The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has called for the use on new terminology for those who have gone to jail for breaking the law. Convicted criminals are now justice-involved persons. Those who are released after their sentence is over are a formerly incarcerated person, a justice-involved person or just a returning resident. Juvenile delinquents are to be referred to as young person with justice system involvement or a young person impacted by the juvenile justice system. The new names are not binding.

Please tell me you are kidding with this. Are we are afraid we are going to offend them with the old names? What the heck is wrong with California?

I wish I could tell you this is a joke but it's not. They didn't make it mandatory... yet.

Is there really a need to make things more complicated with regards to this matter?

They say they are trying to reduce the stigma. Here's an idea. If you don't want to carry the stigma of being a criminal, don't break the law.

They don't want criminals to have to bear the stigma of being criminals.
