How Sweet It Is!!!

The Sweetest Place on Earth.
That’s how Derry Township, Pennsylvania is billed.
If you’ve never heard of Derry, maybe you’ve heard, instead, of its biggest employer, tourist attraction, and the unincorporated area named for the founder of the product made there.
Hershey.
Milton Hershey began making sweets in 1894. From those humble beginnings Hershey is now a mega tourist attraction, complete with an amusement park, hotel, RV resort, baseball park (for the Harrisburg Senators), concert venue, and mega-super-duper store for the candy company.
Tours of the actual plant haven’t been held in decades; however, at Chocolate World they do offer the next best thing: virtual reality. A moving floor takes cars (colored silver [for the Kisses wrapper], orange [Reese’s peanut butter cups], and brown [the chocolate bar]) through the process of turning cacao into a Hershey’s chocolate bar. It’s fun (nothing like seeing cows sing), informative, and free. Best of all, you’re rewarded at the end with a sample of Hershey’s chocolate!!
And, ooh, the wonderful aroma of chocolate!!!!!!
I haven’t been able to ride roller coasters in eons, so I didn’t waste time and money on the amusement park. But it’s there; and, on this late August day with many school systems back in session, it was very busy.
Admission to Chocolate World is free. If you park less than three hours on the premises that is also free. How much time you spend there will depend on your family size, your interest in the amusement park side, and, of course, how long it takes to satisfy your sweet tooth.

I would love to go to this place. Financially it is tough for me to go there as of now but I can perhaps watch some video to see how this place looks like.
It would be such a great fun.

When I was still selling books all over the USA I once exhibited in Harrisburg. I had a week to kill before the next convention in another town, so we did the tourist circuit where we were. That took us to Hershey, where we did tour the factory. Hershey seems to have been good to his employees. I much enjoyed my visit there. That was back around 1994.

I've heard of the place, of course, but I've never been there. (You KNOW why they don't let people tour the plant anymore, right? I'm fairly sure the Umpa Lumpas aren't paying their taxes! They had to close the tours down or Uncle Sam was going to catch the little buggers for sure! )
I live in Missouri and I heard of a place here that might interest you, Four Walls... It is Uranus, Missouri. (Yes, there really is a place named that in Missouri!) There is a factory/store there where they make fudge and other types of sweets. Their slogan is "The best fudge comes from Uranus"! (I'm sorry! I am giggling over that slogan so hard right now! I do hope you think it is as funny as I do!)

I’ve seen their billboards and laughed so hard at them. It’s hard to convince people some of these names are real.

@DaddyEvil — there’s a barbecue place in Kansas City called Squeal Like a Pig. And some of the barbecue rubs and sauce names....wow!

@FourWalls I had never heard of Uranus, Missouri... with good reason... it isn't a real place! Some dude just decided to name his fudge factory that so he could use that slogan... and it is making him a bundle every year!
I still thought it was strange that I'd never heard of it before... usually, my friends make sure anything like that is front and center for me. *shake my head* And honestly, a friend told me about this just today. Do you ever talk with Cindy Tolbert ( @cintol) here on myLot? We met in person today in Mt. Vernon. When she left to continue on her journey, she drove past the billboard for that place and called me to tell me about it.
I'm still giggling every time something reminds me of that factory! *really grinning at you*

Sounds like an interesting place. And with so much to offer, seems like an ideal place for a family outing. My daughters would love this place.

I drive past Hershey on the way to my sister's place. I don't do amusement parks but the world of chocolate would be interesting!

@FourWalls , They may not be the absolute best chocolate but they are one of America's best selling chocolate makers around.
Fill Easter baskets with HERSHEY'S Chocolate and Candy this year. Find your favorite bars, minis and more here.

Hershey's is in my blood. come to think of it, I will get myself a Hershey bar as soon as I get out and about. Love your article. Awesome information. I can think of no other brand of chocolate I like better.
From Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups to Baby Ruth, there’s no shortage of tasty candy bars. But which ones are America’s favorites?
