National Tooth Fairy Day was yesterday 8/22/19; and one of our MyLotters gave me the idea to write about the origin and story of the Tooth Fairy. The tradition of the tand-fe or tooth fee for a child's first tooth originated in Europe. Vikings used children's teeth and other items from their children to bring them good luck in battle. 74% believe that the Tooth Fairy is a female, 12% neither male or female and 8% believe it could be either male or female. The Tooth Fairy comes right before the child wakes up. It is believed that if the child gets up before 7 am, the Tooth Fairy won't come. The Tooth Fairy takes the teeth and leaves a small payment, especially if the teeth have been kept clean and shiny. Then she washes and polishes all the teeth until they become glossy white. Helpers put all the teeth into special little boxes; and the teeth are used to build almost everything in Tooth Fairy Land. The average cash left for a tooth is $3.70. I remember getting $.25 back in the day. Customs vary around the world. Do you remember getting cash for your teeth? How much did you get? Photo Credit: Pixabay

Oh, yes! I loved getting a quarter. My husband made up a tooth fairy song for my boys, and our older one taught it to his children. Now, my grandkids get $20 from us for each tooth lost.

There was never a tooth fairy in my childhood. I hear tooth fairies these days are expensive. Some kids end up getting way more than a dollar for a missing tooth.

@LindaOHio If you add up all the teeth it will be one expensive mouth.

We sometimes got 50 cents. But usually just 25.

It hardly seems fair. When you are young and they fall out you get paid. When they are old and have issues you pay a fortune. That darn tooth fairy.
