Why not rename it after the first and true hero of this island: Lapu-lapu. It quite ridiculous that people from this republic called themselves Filipinos as to serve honor to its namesake: a tyrant from Spain, King Philip II.

Well, we cannot do that as an ordinary people. But if there's something or politics in it, it could be done. For the meantime, we stick to Philippines for our nation and Filipino to the inhabitants. What's important is our daily bread in order to survive.

As long as we are allowed to work for our daily bread, Filipinos we remain. The question therefore is when does the quality of existence become more important than simply surviving?

I guess the name "Philippines" doesn't matter, that's just the past.
