Trails and Geocaching

This morning we stopped along the St Lawrence River. There was a beautiful hiking trail and bonus, a couple of geocaches. The first geocache was easy to locate. We signed the log and replaced the cache. The second cache...was an EarthCache. That means there is nothing to find, but I do need to gather information and send in the answers in order to be able to log the cache. This was a challenge. The requirements were all in French.... As a tourist destination, we would have appreciated bilingual signs. Just French language information left me taking a lot of photos so that I can translate everything and then once I have my answers...translating them into French. Today was another great day for traveling. The wildlife we spotted included a moose (along the road) a white crane, many Canada Geese, several wild turkeys...not to mention crows and gulls. What will tomorrow bring?

If you want to post the photos, I will be more than happy to translate from French to English for you, no problems at all.

Was the geocache "hidden" by a national park or by a city / county / government? If so, then yeah they should have had it bilingual. I guess you are in the part of Canada where more people speak French?

@Morleyhunt Oh okay I see, so then that's understandable. Most everyone that lives in that area would have known the French. They probably weren't thinking to cater to tourists, and like you said, they resist English.

@ScribbledAdNauseum this is a tourist information center and attraction. It's along the Trans Canada highway. They need to know not everyone will understand French.

We were in Quebec. Their language is French and there is a resistance from the government to use English. New Brunswick is bilingual and anything official is offered in French and English.

It sounds like you are enjoying a near-perfect pace on this trip. That is hard to manage, but congratulations on doing it and I hope that you can maintain that pace. How far are you this evening?

@Morleyhunt You made good time and did a lot of travelling to be in Brockville already. I love going to Niagara Falls, I know that you lived in that area, so you'll enjoy being back in your old stomping grounds. I wish you continued safe travels. Enjoy your time with your family if you're visiting with them tomorrow.

We had a bit of trouble occasionally in France, trying to decipher signs. We quickly learnt 'Interdit' which is basically 'forbidden'. A good one to know!!

Just from high school French, and living in a bilingual province I know many basics...but lessons are a lot different from ordering a coffee. I recognize "nous emboucons" now hiring, "a louer" for rent. The days of the week, road work, stay left/right. Toilettes, essence, epicerie... (See I'm almost bilingual.)
