Has anyone ever tried Surströmming? What's it like?

Basically, it's Swedish fermented herring and people have been setting it up as a challenge. I've seen a few videos in Youtube and they're hilarious. I don't think it's that bad if it's prepared well, right? Or is it really hard to like? Others would say it's an acquired taste.

I have heard that it's really bad. I've never had it.

I have never tried it and after reading that a Japanese study declared a newly-opened can to be "one of the most putrid food smells in the world" and that a German food writer wrote that "the biggest challenge when eating surströmming is to vomit only after the first bite, as opposed to before". I can definitely say that it is NOT on my bucket list of things to try - though if I ever did, I had better bring a bucket!
