What are you afraid of?

In this post, I am not necessarily talking fear of people or circumstances but rather irrational fears like my two phobias.
My first phobia is "acrophobia", fear of heights. I have had this phobia all my life. I cannot go on a balcony at all. I feel very dizzy when looking down a precipice and I will avoid this situation at all cost. I also feel dizzy when looking down an escalator, so when I have to go down within a building, I always take either the stairs or an elevator. As for flying, or "aerophobia" well I did it a total of four times while cramping the seat armrests as tightly as I could. I hated every turbulence and I could not look outside the window...
My second phobia is my worst: it is "amaxophobia" which is a fear of driving, riding and just being in a moving vehicle, mostly a car. For some reason or another, travelling by bus is less scary for me, probably due to the fact that they are bigger...
I can almost swear that this latest particular fear was passed from my mother when I was in her uterus, thus an in utero transference of my mother's own fear of being in a car. Why, you might ask? My mother never learned how to drive and she had to rely on my father for that. But my father had the bad habit of dozing off on the wheel and my mother had to often "wake" him up... Now my "amaxophobia" is not related to "agorophobia" (fear or being trapped, unless it is associated with a car accident and then I could really be trapped), or "claustrophobia" as I have no problem being confined in elevators or a small room.
I personally think that my "amaxophobia" has increased ten folds as I was a registered for 21 years in the past and I have seen my fair share of MVA's (motorvehicle accidents). I have personally treated patients with simple fractures to severe internal trauma and concussions to serious head injuries. As such, my "amaxophobia" is compounded with "dystichiphobia" which is a fear of accidents, but in my case only car related accidents and not everyday fear or falling down or whatever...
As a teenager, I took driving lessons to try to get over my "amaxophobia" but with no success. The wheel would basically not turn right or left as my hands were gripped so tightly over it. Also, I noticed sometimes the next day of my driving lessons some bruising on the inside of my knees which I attributed to the fact that my legs were sometimes shaking violently...
So, I am still living with my two irrational fears and I conquer them the best that I can with either avoiding what causes them altogether or if I cannot avoid them at all by closing my eyes or cringing my forehead and eyebrows together and letting my heart fluttering go wild...

Fear of heights, snakes and what else? Just a question. Fear of heights I understand. I do not like anything slithering or crawling but since we do not have that many of these creepy animals around where I reside, I consider myself lucky. Thank you for reading, liking and commenting.

I really do not like snakes and creepy crawlers either but since we do not have a lot of these where I reside, I feel very safe and I do not fear walking in the grass or sidewalk etc.. Thank you very much for reading and commenting...

@frankie2013 welcome frankie. one more thing, i fear accident. especially bus accident. back in 2004, the bus i was riding almost fell off the ravine. good thing there was a tree that hindered it.

@Janet357 Wow, I am glad you were not injured. I am still afraid of travelling on a bus but only slightly less because as I said they are bigger and thus less likely to be wrecked by a car. As for being hit by a transport truck that is another story which I would rather not even think about. Also, I only take the bus in town so no ravines close by... thank God...

Fear of heights is fairly common I see. I do not have any children myself, but I sympathize with your fear of losing your kids. As for snakes and creepy crawlers, I feel the same way as you. I do not like them but I do not think I would react excessively if I ever encounter one. Still, in my region of the world, snakes are rarely seen so I count my blessings for that. Thank you very much for reading and commenting...

You are one of the lucky ones. A lot of individuals live with phobias. I think even animals suffer from some types of phobias like fear of thunder and lightning although that could be just instinct in their case. Anyway thanks for dropping in and commenting and liking.

I understand your fear and apprehension. There are apparently certain types of therapy to overcome them... Personally I just try to avoid them especially my fear of a moving vehicle as I would much rather like the feel of the earth right underneath my feet. Thank you for reading, liking and commenting...
